Position #010093, #010107 & #009518 7:00 am - 3:30 pm; Monday - Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required, as necessary.
Position #0100048:00 am - 4:30 pm; Monday - Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required, as necessary. (Regional Utility Plant Shop).
Mandatory Position
This position is designated as 'mandatory' and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the building as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions. |
Primary Purpose of Position |
This Facility Maintenance Technician Mechanical Trades position is at the journey level, and is considered to be a fully functioning
RUP technician. Additionally, this position is expected to be able to perform all general maintenance work. Tasks may include maintenance, repair, placement, fabrication, installation, alteration, construction and design of facility components in assigned shop. |
Minimum Education/Experience |
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years experience. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position's role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. |
Essential Job Duties |
- Maintain, repair, place, fabricate, install, alter, construct, and design facility components that require the application of skills in planning, problem-solving, attention to detail, teamwork, communication, and adherence to safety.
- Perform routine maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and/or the physical condition of buildings does no deteriorate.
- Use electrical test devices to troubleshoot and repair chiller electrical control circuits.
- Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary.

Other Work Responsibilities |
- Act as a Journey level worker and provide assistance to other facility maintenance technicians.
- Work with supervision or instruction, and complete work with competence and professionalism in compliance with generally accepted trade practices.
- Communicate effectively with customers, and managers, and provide high-quality customer service based on University policy and procedures.
- Record daily activities in an order tracking system (Archibus).
- Perform other duties as assigned and/or delegated to support all operations.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education |
- High school diploma or GED equivalency; Associate's degree from an accredited institution preferred in HVAC or Engineering Technology.
- 2-4 years experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and refrigeration equipment specializing in chillers/cooling towers.
- Knowledge and skills with Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and willingness to learn new programs.
- Experience with maintaining, repair, place, fabricate, install, alter, construct, and design facility components that require the application of skills in planning, problem-solving, attention to detail, teamwork, communication, and adherence to safety.
- Experience with performing routine maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and/or the physical condition of buildings does no deteriorate.
- Experience using electrical test devices to troubleshoot and repair chiller electrical control circuits.
- Experience in diagnosing mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary.
- Ability to operate assigned vehicles on and/or off campus and to possess, maintain, or obtain a valid driver's license upon appointment to the position.
- Ability to have effective verbal communication skills and comprehension, interpretation skills in both reading and writing.
- Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.

- A valid driver's license is needed for position.
- Must possess, maintain, or obtain a valid driver's license upon appointment to the position.
