Associate Engineer - Certification Testing

Role Summary:

As an Associate Engineer you gain experience in the timely preparation and testing of emission certification vehicles. This role is the liaison between the Emission Certification/OBD teams at EEO, the technical teams in USA/Europe, the Testing Lab and Proving Grounds for any testing related questions and issues.

Role Responsibilities:

Vehicle Testing & Analysis - (75%)

* Supports with monitoring of federal and state regulatory certification testing requirements

* Supports the coordination of upcoming certification testing projects

* Supports the creation and alignment of test plans and test requests between the department and the lab

* Supports in the coordination of mileage accumulation (e.g., 4k / 150k miles)

* Supports the development of deterioration factors for exhaust/evaporative emissions

* Assists in certification testing, primarily emissions, verification and fuel economy testing; supporting of OBD testing

* Assists with the ordering, preparation and disposal of test vehicles in accordance with VW internal and regulatory requirements

* Supports with the performance of inspections of test vehicles to ensure it represents production vehicle (e.g., parts check)

* Supports the Testing Lab during the test execution as needed

* Liaison between other EEO department locations (e.g., Auburn Hills), the Oxnard Engineering Campus and Arizona Proving Grounds

* Liaison to technical teams (e.g., VWGoA Engineering & Planning Center, VW Mexico, VW AG) and production teams to resolve vehicle issues

* Ensures documentation of test results

* Assists with PEMS (Portable Emission Measurement Systems) testing and analysis

* Supports the review of AECDs and calibrations to identify issues and inconsistencies

* Coordinates billing activities and tracks performed tests

OBD / Certification Application and Reports - (15%)

* Supports the Certification and OBD Application creation and submission process as needed

* Assists with the review of technical bulletins and coordination with VWGoA service colleagues to maintain consistency/transparency between certification and service related documents

* Supports the creation of reports along with supporting documentation and conduct any necessary follow up related to the testing results

Communication and Special Projects - (10%)

* Supports other testing activities (e.g., special project testing) as needed

* Communicate certification testing status to internal customers

* Works with Technical Program Management team to document and enhance internal processes

Qualifications:

Education - Required:



  • Bachelor's Degree (preferably in Engineering, Information Systems, Automotive Technology, or related field)


Education - Desired:



  • Master's Degree in Engineering or related field

* Awareness of emission / OBD regulations and emission certification procedures

* Basic technical knowledge of automotive powertrain, emission control systems, and emission measurement techniques.

Specialized Skills - Desired:

* Understanding of Volkswagen Group product portfolio, including technical features

* Knowledge of emission/ OBD calibration or certification and emission testing.

* Basic understanding of PEMS (Portable Emissions Measurement System) testing

* Knowledge of engineering and analysis software (e.g., DiagRA, AVL Concerto)

* Basic understanding of calibration methodology and calibration thresholds

Work Flexibility:

* ~10% travel to various (test) locations in the US required

* Workload occasionally requires additional hours beyond a normal work schedule incl. weekends

* Work schedule can be flexible (e.g., flextime, or compressed work week) in alignment with management

* Must be available to contact colleagues at U.S. and European locations and government agencies across the U.S. and Canada.

Compensation:

Salary range is dependent on factors such as geographical differentials, industry-based experience, skills, training, credentials, and other qualifications.

In the state of California, the salary range is $63,300 - $86,900.
