Overview

Interstates is seeking a qualified Engineering Manager for the power discipline within our Electrical design department. The Engineering Manager will oversee a team of approximately 50 engineers, designers, analysts, and techs. This delivery leader is responsible for the growth of technical skills within the discipline, ensuring standard processes are followed and quality benchmarks are met. Additional Information: The pay range for this position is $100k to $125k+ benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by the experience and education required, and level of responsibility. The range posted for this role represents a range that Interstates, in good faith, believes it is willing to pay at the time of this posting. The pay is determined by job related skills, training, education, and experience.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop team members' leadership and technical skills by providing targeted mentorship and support.
  • Champion the improvement of the Power discipline's process, systems, hardware, software, and other needs.
  • Drive change management efforts necessary to embed new skills, processes and standards.
  • Responsible for the performance review of discipline members including talent, merit, and bonus reviews.
  • Align personnel with project teams based on backlog, project needs, and employee skillsets in cooperation with the Market Lane Leaders.
  • Advise Project Leaders and their team members to aid them in following standards for execution and getting additional support.
  • Conduct peer reviews and approve drawings to maintain quality (PE stamping if applicable).
  • Promote technical growth through training and knowledge sharing within the Power discipline.
  • Encourage and support cross-training with other design disciplines.
  • Lead strategic initiatives that focus on the improvement or expansion of service offerings, aligning with growth objectives.
  • Set direction for leaders to develop others through delegation and accountability.
  • Serve as hiring manager for new and experienced incoming hires, delegating responsibilities as needed.
  • Achieve industry recognition as an expert through acknowledgment by peers, professional associations, governing bodies, or influential peer groups.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Lead organization-wide training sessions on key topics and industry issues to enhance team skillset.
  • Mentor leaders across the organization to share expertise and strengthen collaboration.
  • Update Interstates standards to reflect code changes, ensuring compliance across all projects.
  • Coach field leaders on implementing design standards and gather feedback to improve constructability.

Qualifications

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience: An Engineering Manager is required to have a B.S. degree from a four-year ABET-accredited engineering program. Candidates should have 5-7 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, demonstrating a high level of expertise and leadership in engineering projects. A Professional Engineer (PE) license is required, or the candidate must be eligible to become a licensed PE or be registered in at least one governing authority.

In addition, candidates must possess in-depth knowledge of electrical terminology and components, electrical symbols, and the National Electric Code (NEC). Capability in design and drafting software is preferred to support detailed design and project development. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing complex, large-scale projects, leading cross-functional teams, and delivering innovative engineering solutions that meet client and regulatory requirements.

Travel Requirements: Travel will be required and will vary according to business requirements. Travel should not exceed 30% of your time.

Work Environment:
Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment but may involve exposure to moderate noise levels from high-speed computer printers and other peripherals. Work involves operation of personal computer equipment for extended periods of time. Occasional travel to various worksites may also be required, depending on the assignment
