The primary responsibility of the OR Staff Scheduler is to evaluate and develop a plan to meet the business needs according to Operating Room Allocations. Independent judgement and ability to assess Operating Room personnel is needed to provide appropriate support for patient care populations based on job classifications, professional expertise, and knowledge. The OR Staff Scheduler evaluates, coordinates and plans the unit needs and serves as resource to internal and external clients.

Responsible for the Electronic Staffing System, all OR staff scheduling and providing daily support needs for the Operating Room staff. This position requires proficiency in data gathering and analysis. This position includes knowledge of various data systems such as timekeeping system, Electronic Staffing System, as well as Leaves/FMLA/CFRA/Work Comp and Light Duty necessary to meet the business needs of Perioperative Division.
Staff Scheduling also consists of maintaining the on-call, overtime shifts, holiday time, vacations and professional development leave. Having a good understanding of the Union Contracts as it applies to all OR personnel and applying this knowledge while scheduling. Supports administration, management, and staff with the implementation of effective methodologies to improve staffing schedule design, process, and implementation.
Duties include analysis, creation, distribution of data and reports. Provide guidance to the division managing changes related to the implementation and use of change management methodologies.

Works in close collaboration with the Operating Room management team and perioperative staff providing excellent, timely customer service and support.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • A combination of relevant education, certification and experience may be qualifying.
  • Two plus years of recent work experience managing and coordinating a complex staff scheduling program in a large complex perioperative or clinical 24/7 environment. Demonstrated experience with Electronic Staff Scheduling system and timekeeping systems. Experience working with data, formulating recommendations and solving problems based on thorough research and data analysis.
  • * Analytical and problem-solving skills to build complex staff schedules. Technical skill working with computer programs, data bases, spreadsheets and staff scheduling programs to create, maintain and manage large complex staff schedules. Knowledge and work experience in multi-disciplinary specialties and staffing requirements needed to support business demands. Ability to apply appropriate University and department policies, union contracts, and HR principles in a fair, consistent and equitable manner. Demonstrates advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage highly complex information, assess problems, and develop effective solutions. Skill using software and computer program including but not limited to database, spreadsheets, Word documents, such as Microsoft Outlook. Ability to organize, prioritize, perform multiple tasks concurrently, to meet deadlines and operational needs. Commitment to excellence in supporting business needs. Effective interpersonal skills to interact with diverse internal and external clients in a professional timely, and helpful manner. Demonstrates accountability to meet job responsibilities. Adapts to change in a positive, professional and productive manner. Ability to set priorities, organize work independently. Maintain a clean safe, organized work area.

Work Environment
