Student Health and Well-Being (SHWB) Mental Health Services at Johns Hopkins University seeks an energetic, organized, and motivated Senior Mental Health Services Clinician, Coordinator of Clinical and Crisis Services to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment focused on delivering innovative mental healthcare and supporting the well-being of a diverse community of learners. The Senior Mental Health Services Clinician, Coordinator of Clinical and Crisis Services,is part of an interdisciplinary team of clinicians providing clinical and outreach services to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students and learners across Johns Hopkins University. Senior Clinicians within Mental Health Services participate in the full range of clinical service delivery and hold other responsibilities, including program coordination, supervision of 1-2 staff and/or interns, and professional development activities commensurate with their experience levels. As Coordinator of Clinical and Crisis Services, this clinician will supervise two clinical staff and serve as the on-site MHS lead for the JHU Washington, D.C. campus in the Hopkins Bloomberg Center. This role will collaborate closely with the Baltimore-based Behavioral Health Crisis Support Team (BHCST) to coordinate and intervene in mental health crises involving DC students and learners and provide consultation to campus stakeholders and student affairs staff for programs operating out of the Washington, D.C. campus. All MHS clinicians work collaboratively with psychiatry, primary care, and health promotion staff to provide care that emphasizes holistic wellness and mental well-being and leverages students' resilience and other key skills. This position's direct clinical service time will primarily focus on single-session consultation, drop-in counseling, initial consultations, and groups and workshops, with the possibility of maintaining a small caseload of goal-oriented therapy clients. The Senior Clinician will serve as the lead consultant to other DC-based MHS staff and the primary liaison to primary care and disability services staff in the Student Health and Well-Being suite. Specific Duties and Responsibilities This position's direct clinical service and supervisory responsibilities will be primarily based at the Washington, D.C. clinic but may provide virtual or in-person services, supervision, or occasional reporting requirements at other locations in Maryland. Clinical and Crisis Services Program Oversight
- Ensures smooth operations of the DC MHS clinic by consulting clinical and administrative staff, addressing questions and operational issues, and liaising between primary care and mental health staff to facilitate care collaboration.
- Leads on-site crisis intervention in collaboration with the Baltimore-based Behavioral Health Crisis Support Team (BHCST) for students and learners experiencing mental health crises within the Hopkins Bloomberg Center.
- Provides occasional backup coverage to the BHCST Access Line during business hours, answering calls and triaging crises.
- In collaboration with the Baltimore-based Referral and Case Management Team, coordinates case management follow-up to ensure continuity of care for D.C.-based clients who need community referrals and are entering or stepping down from hospitalization/higher levels of care.
- Participates in clinical collaboratives and coordination meetings with the BHCST and Clinical Case Management teams.
- Remains abreast of current literature and research on student behavioral health and evidence-based intervention strategies, focusing on crisis intervention and suicide risk assessment.
Supervision and Leadership Development
- Supervises two clinical staff including goal setting, performance evaluations, and accountability management.
- Coordinates clinical services in Washington, D.C., and ensures that supervisees are delivering high-quality mental health services and practicing within MHS guidelines.
- Participates in clinical training programs; licensed clinicians may supervise trainees relevant to their discipline and licensure requirements.
- Participates in recruitment, hiring, and training processes for clinical and administrative staff, including searches for other SHWB positions within the shared suite.
- Oversees staff development, engagement, and team-building activities for DC-based staff and actively participates in MHS-wide events.
Direct Clinical Services
- Creates a warm and welcoming clinical environment where clients feel supported and respected as they pursue their personal, academic, and professional goals.
- Conducted crisis intervention and risk assessments for clients referred on an urgent basis; supported other clinical staff in managing high-risk cases.
- Collaborates with JHU Public Safety and the DC Metro crisis team to facilitate the transport of individuals in crisis to the hospital.
- Provides multiculturally informed direct clinical services, including drop-in and single-session consultations, initial consultations, intake assessments, and group therapy; may maintain a small caseload of goal-oriented therapy clients.
- Utilizes flexible and goal-oriented approaches to individual treatment, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and interpersonal therapy, often in collaboration with psychiatric providers.
- Collaborates with providers within SHWB as an interdisciplinary treatment team, including therapists, psychiatric providers, primary care clinicians, case management, and disability services staff.
Outreach
- Engages in opportunities for informal interactions with students to reduce barriers to counseling, including offering drop-in and chat hours, attending student events, orientation, and resource fairs, and participating in student-led and student-focused programs.
- Contributes to content for MHS social media and website content.
- Serves as primary liaison to D.C.-based JHU programs to enhance relationships with faculty, staff, students, and trainees; a range of activities may include needs assessment, embedded chat or drop-in hours, participation in CARE teams, facilitating skills training or workshops, consultation, etc.
- Collaborates with campus partners to support the clinical and programmatic needs of students and learners, focusing on crisis intervention and case management services.
Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities
- Demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
- Specialized training or experience with crisis intervention and case management is strongly preferred.
- Specialized training or experience working with one or more diverse populations is strongly preferred (e.g., Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Color (BIPOC) identified students, LGBTQ+ community, first-generation and/or limited income students, international students, and students who identify as disabled, gender diverse, and neurodivergent).
- Clinical experience with concerns prevalent within the student and learner population is strongly preferred (e.g., identity development, trauma, anxiety, mood disorders, disordered eating, co-occurring substance use disorders, sleep disorders, and ADHD).
- Experience independently executing psycho-educational presentations, programs and events.
- Bilingual proficiency is highly desirable.
Additional Information
- This is a 37.5 hour/week, 12-month position. One evening clinic per week (telehealth only until 7 pm) may be required.
- This position requires 5 days/week on-site due to crisis coverage responsibilities.
- Evening and weekend work may be necessary due to programmatic needs and activities during the academic year.
- This position is designated as a Required Attendance Employee, which is vital to the operation of a workgroup, so they may be required to work during a university closure in response to operational needs.

Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in counseling, psychology, or social work from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 5 years of post-graduate clinical experience.
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical supervisory experience.
- Licensed as a mental health provider in the required jurisdiction(s) noted in the job description (psychologist, LMFT, LCPC, LCSW-C) or license-eligible (licensed as a mental health provider in another jurisdiction, must obtain licensure in required jurisdiction(s) within 6 months of hire).
- Substitution/Equivalency: Doctoral degree (Ph.D., Psy.D., DSW, or equivalent) in a relevant clinical discipline from an accredited program and completion of an accredited internship. If eligibility is based on a doctoral degree, a minimum of three years of post-graduate experience and two or more years of licensure as a psychologist or board-approved status as a social worker or professional counselor is required to meet the minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctoral degree (DSW, Ph.D., Psy.D. or relevant terminal degree) from an accredited program.
- Experience with APA-approved doctoral training programs as a clinical supervisor and familiarity with the compliance requirements for accreditation of APA-approved internships in health service psychology.
- Clinical experience in a university setting strongly preferred.
