The Association Director of the Office of Procurement Diversity at the University of Illinois will play a significant leadership role within the Office of Business and Financial Services to achieve the University's mission and vision for supplier diversity in all procurement activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partner in Developing and/or executing a strategic plan, implement, and manage all outreach aspects of the University of Illinois Procurement Diversity program, including but not limited to outreach, , vendor engagement, vendor communication, and conference development.
- Serve as a liaison between the University of Illinois, the diverse procurement community, diverse procurement advocacy groups, and external regulatory agencies.
- Serve in a senior leadership role within the Office of Procurement Services focusing on Systemwide Diversity engagement.
- Serve on the Assistant Vice President for Procurement Services senior staff team and provide advice to senior staff on procurement diversity issues and outreach opportunities.
- Other duties appropriate for an Associate Director of Procurement Diversity.
- Track second tier diversity spend and ensure goals are being met through the B2GNow System
- Ensure diverse businesses obtain and maintain BEP, VBE and small business certifications
- Assess any statutory, CPO, administrative rule changes and incorporate into university policy
- Manage all supplier diversity outreach events by the University of Illinois System (inc. Professional Services Symposiums, Construction Summits, UI Health Events etc)
- Co-sponsor outreach events with university departments, CPO, IPHEC and other outside entities
- Attend and represent the university of Illinois system at outreach events hosted by external parties
- Manage and host regular "Meet and Greets" and 'Lunch and Learns" to introduce diverse businesses to staff
- Serves on panel, workshops and trainings
- Oversees relationships with diverse businesses
- Initiates initial meetings and collects capability statements
- Tracks certifications and assists businesses in obtaining and maintaining BEP certifications
- Provides opportunities for introductions and networking with university departments
- Assist Diverse Supplier Development Program head as needed and appropriate
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in business, engineering or public administration.
Preferred:
- Master's degree in business, engineering or public administration.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Required:
- Five years of business, management, purchasing or contracting experience in procurement focused on procurement diversity.
- Experience with operational and financial issues relative to serving large institutions with a variety of sourcing mechanisms compared to their size and resource base.
- Experience in building relationships consistent with increasing supplier diversity and maintaining fiscal responsibility.
- Ability to develop and communicate a strategic vision of expected (or needed) supplier relationships for a large buying organization.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Demonstrated competency to be an effective presenter and public speaker to both internal and external constituencies.
- Superior project management skills and follow-through.
- Ability to analyze detailed data to identify opportunities for expanding procurement diversity.
- Effective integrator, collaborator, and promoter of and ability to influence internal clients towards diverse procurement usage within the University.
- Effective trainer and contributor to development of training and training materials to internal staff and external clients.
- Experience in developing and leading professional staff as an effective unit focused on reaching short and long-term goals and objectives.
- Experience in developing strong and positive vendor relationships through outreach programs, collaborations, partnerships, and innovative initiatives.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION This is a Full Time academic professional position. The expected start date is 2/10/2025. System Office jobs such as this one are not eligible for the Referral Program. Salary range is $125,000-$135,000, salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the full range for a position.
