Position Description:
Manage, plan, organize, and supervise fabrication shop operations and assist with skilled trades scopes of work activities. Lead, direct, and coordinate work of Turner Trade shop employees, subcontractors, and/or vendors. Manage schedule delivery, quality of work performed, and adhere to project budget and safety requirements.

Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities:

  • Function as working foreman while leading and supervising shop employees to complete work.
  • Foster workplace environment where all people demonstrate highest standards of care of each other using Turner's Active Caring philosophy with teams, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Oversee and make decisions related to performance of shop work and review jobsite needs with project staff for logistics, organization, shop layout, equipment, quality control, and workforce utilization.
  • Coordinate, direct, and monitor shop employee activities and anyone within shop, support use of tools and work alongside employees and others in shop, as necessary.
  • Collaborate with project team(s) to schedule and expedite material and equipment deliveries. Develop and implement recovery strategies to maintain project schedule, as required.
  • Develop shop work schedules and delegate assignments to crew, pre-plan routes for logistical efficiency and safety.
  • Supervise inventory control procedures, and re-order supplies as needed.
  • Obtain and maintain training/licensing for equipment used and/or supplied by shop.
  • Stock, organize, and rearrange tools and equipment in shop and yard. Perform inspections of equipment in yard as required.
  • Maintain up to date records of inventory within asset management software.
  • Complete and submit required shop related documents and reports as required daily.
  • Identify, eliminate, and control hazardous conditions that may lead to injury and or property damage.
  • Keep shop premises neat and clean, perform regular maintenance to maintain physical condition of shop.
  • Ensure security of property.
  • Maintain fleet, refueling, and registration as needed.
  • Operate and navigate trucks and trailers to facilitate shop operations.
  • Propose other areas to grow and expand shop material and equipment services.
  • Identify, communicate, and escalate problems and issues to Supervisor for immediate resolution.
  • Track production of completed tasks.
  • Investigate and document resolution of issues within assigned scope of work.
  • Work closely with Shop Manager to resolve local area problems related to procedures, precedence, design clarifications, adequate labor, equipment schedule, and other related matters.
  • Collaborate with Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) and Quality Control teams for overall site safety and quality programs.
  • Guide assigned Trade teams to conduct and participate in daily Pre-Task Plans.
  • Ensure Trade employees and subcontractors comply with Turner standards, safety codes, regulations, and jobsite security.
  • Ensure teams fully understand work instructions, project signage, and safety instructions from tool and equipment manufacturers and inspect tools prior use to ensure safe and working condition.
  • Remind team of safety expectations and oversee team's operation of equipment, use of safety protocols, and selection of appropriate equipment for performing work.
  • Supervise and develop assigned Trade employees, provide feedback and discipline as needed, and complete or provide input on performance evaluations and development recommendations.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in warehouse, equipment rentals, shop, or other related experience required and minimum of 1 year of foreman, team lead, or supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Must have and maintain active OSHA 30-hour certification or willing to pursue certification
  • Ability to understand, and interpret construction contract documents, drawings (e.g., shop, structural, blueprints, sketches, and/or building plans), specifications, scopes of work, vendor tags, and project schedule to determine dimensions and materials to execute work activities
  • Proficient use of related tools to complete work assignments
  • Ability to lead, delegate, engage with and motivate teams
  • Strong planning and analysis skills
  • Able to think critically and use good judgment to solve problems
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret construction contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedule to execute work activities
  • Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills with ability to apply active listening skills and engage with all levels of teams, clients, business partners, and management
  • Basic computer skills to utilize company and project applications (e.g., smart phone/iPad)
  • Proficient knowledge of Environmental Health Safety (EH&S) processes and regulations
  • Ability to develop team members and deliver performance feedback
  • Ability to travel using various modes (e.g., automobile, train, air) and accommodate night and weekend work as needed
  • Valid state and/or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) as applicable to operate equipment and/or travel as needed using company vehicles

Performance requires physical ability to navigate work areas under construction, climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, and climb ladders, along with the following: Constantly: Standing, walking, combined standing/walking, lifting/lowering/carrying weights under 25 lbs., reaching below shoulder height, bending/twisting neck, bending at waist (forward & sideways), balancing, pushing/pulling, hand/wrist flexion extension, and noise/dust/chemical exposures. Frequently: Lifting/lowering/carrying weights over 25 lbs., reaching above shoulder height, working on heights. Occasionally: Sitting, squatting, kneeling, climbing, crawling, repetitive motions, and confined space hazards.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and risk of electric shock.
