TRiO/Student Support Services Office Assistant

Hourly Rate: $14.95

The Part-Time TRiO/Student Services Office Assistant is responsible for facilitating the daily operational flow of the department/program, greeting & receiving guests, directing visitors, and producing documents & resources to support the programs of TRiO/Student Support Services.

The Office Assistant is a part-time, 19 hours-or-less, grant-funded position. This position will work on a schedule established by the Director of TRiO/Student Support Services and may include working occasional night and weekends. The position involves access to confidential information and records. Minimal supervision is provided; the Part-Time Office Assistant must be able to work independently. Annual renewal of position is contingent on federal funding levels.

Essential Job
Functions:

  • Greet and direct visitors and program participants, answer phones, transfer calls, and route messages to the appropriate staff.
  • Answer telephone, written, and in-person inquiries about the TRiO program and Parkland College.
  • Process paperwork, and maintain accurate records, activity reports, and files.
  • Schedule appointments and manage office and staff calendars.
  • Perform occasional special projects under supervision of the TRiO staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Two (2) years professional office experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to consistently produce accurate, high quality, professional-looking documents.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask.
  • Ability to communicate and work with diverse groups of people.
  • Professionalism in actions and appearance.
  • Ability to learn the Parkland information system and new computer programs as technology changes.
  • In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment. This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
