About the Role

Culmen International is hiring a Health Communications Specialist / Implementation Science Specialist to aid the Defense Health Agency (DHA) in applying scientific research to clinical practice through effective dissemination and implementation science strategies. The role involves collaborating with a diverse team to promote the utilization and adoption of implementation science across various consultations and enterprise-wide initiatives.



What You'll Do in Your New Role

Key responsibilities include managing communications campaigns across different clinical topics, which encompass developing targeted audience profiles, conducting environmental assessments, creating communication materials, and running social media campaigns. The specialist will also support complex consultation projects by reviewing policies, recommending clinical workflows, and creating decision support tools. Additionally, the role contributes to enterprise-wide efforts by conducting research, analyzing implementation metrics, and assisting with the activities of the Community of Practice to foster collaboration and improve health outcomes within DHA and its network.

    Design, format, write, and edit client and leadership briefs, presentations, abstracts, and other client-facing materials within the MHS.
  • Support dissemination and implementation efforts on consultation projects, responsibilities include:
    • Interpret and translate complex clinical content into user friendly resources written in plain language and relatable to a broad audience;
    • Support development and execution of dissemination plans (e.g., social media campaigns, developing key messages, creating infographics); and
    • Support development and execution of implementation plans (e.g., developing training modules, creating clinician support tools).
  • Work closely with project staff, research and clinical subject matter experts, clinical providers, occupational health and safety professionals, and education and training staff to develop and execute implementation science plans.
  • Must be proactive, self-directed, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to develop processes, manage day-to-day workload, monitor and meet milestones and deadlines, and provide timely and professional high quality consultative support.


Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of military culture and structure to best support MHS initiatives.
  • Strong technical writing skills to clearly, logically, and succinctly communicate project-related information within the MHS, DoD, and other federal agencies at the commensurate comprehension and reading level for the audience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently, and have strong oral and written communication abilities, with strong conceptual and systems-thinking abilities and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid working knowledge of computer software (Microsoft Office business suite, to include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required to prepare reports, briefings, and products; experience with Adobe Professional and with posting and sharing documents in SharePoint.
  • Excellent client-facing consultation skills to include briefing and/or advisement to civilian and uniformed government personnel.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain relationships, demonstrate initiative and a high level of engagement, exude a professional presence, focus on results and demonstrate enthusiasm.


Desired Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have experience working in the Military Health System (preferably Defense Health Agency, VA, AHRQ, CDC, SAMSHA or NIH).
  • Minimum of 5 years of communications and implementation experience.
  • Bachelors' degree.
  • Strong knowledge and/or experience with dissemination and implementation best practices.
  • Understanding what is required to communicate across various audiences to develop effective presentations.
  • Knowledge and/or experience interpreting and communicating data informed findings/results.
  • Background in public health or public policy.
  • Preference for individual with graphic design experience (using Piktochart or Canva) and able to develop infographics for social media campaigns.
  • Position is remote but preference for individual that is located in the National Capital Region and able to be present at primary client site in Silver Spring, MD as needed as well as additional sites as needed (e.g., Defense Health Headquarters in Falls Church, VA).

The determination of compensation at Culmen International, LLC is based on various factors such as location, the individual's unique combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, clearance level, experience, internal equity, contract-specific affordability, and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000 annually. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Culmen's total compensation package for employees.
