Overview

Job Summary

Under the supervision of a board-certified Medical Physicist, the teammate delivers assistive medical physics services to all internal and external customers utilizing best practices, nationally recognized standards, and regulations in a manner that ensures the highest level of safety, quality patient care, and regulatory compliance.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as an assistive resource for the medical physics team in aspects of simulation, treatment planning, treatment delivery, routine quality assurance and patient-specific QA.
  • Assists with commissioning and acceptance testing tasks
  • Provides assistance to medical physicists with problem solving, troubleshooting, and maintenance for simulation, treatment planning, and treatment delivery equipment.
  • Performs appropriate quality assurance procedures and records. All procedures and documentation are completed on time.
  • Maintains and uses standard dosimetry equipment such as ionization chambers, arrays, OSLDs, water tanks, etc.
  • Responsible for ensuring up-to-date calibrations on all survey and dosimetry equipment as instructed
  • Participate in data entry and submission of dosimetry data for clinical trials and registries.
  • Performs data analysis for clinical process improvement and clinical research projects.
  • Assists in the performance of necessary tasks for physics projects, policy/procedure development and continuous quality improvement.
  • Assists the medical physicist in all aspects of teaching and training of staff on new modalities
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Atrium Health policies and local standards
  • Maintains a commitment to a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and safety.
  • Travel regionally to various centers in the network to conduct the job responsibilities as identified above at different centers.
  • Adheres to radiation safety protocols and policies.

Physical Requirements

General hospital environment with exposure to radiation, chemicals, pathogens, and patient body fluids. Must be able to lift, push and pull, in excess of 100 lbs. Frequent walking, standing, stooping and reaching during and for quality assurance procedures. Manual dexterity required: Heavy concentration with computers.

Education, Experience and Certifications

Bachelor's Degree in Medical Physics, Physics, Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Radiation Therapy, or related field. Use of computer systems and applications including proficient use of MS Excel and Word. Experience with coding and/or programming highly desired.
