THE POSITION

As a Tort Claims Evaluator for the Department of General Services (DGS), you can take pride in working for a driven, dedicated team committed to responsible fiscal stewardship while also ensuring Pennsylvania citizens are properly assisted following an incident involving a Commonwealth agency. Whether interacting directly with customers who have been involved with a property damage or bodily injury claim, working closely with other commonwealth agencies to help them mitigate risks, or negotiating settlement amounts with attorneys and other insurance professionals, this position plays a key role in helping government operate efficiently, effectively, and safely, delivering exceptional value to all Pennsylvanians. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Within this role, you will manage the insurance claim process for the Commonwealth. This includes reviewing the initial claim, obtaining detailed evidence, and conducting interviews with claimants or their representatives, witnesses, and other relevant parties to the claim. You will also be responsible for requesting the aid of experts or consultants as necessary, evaluating liability and damages, negotiating settlements, and subrogating at-fault parties. This professional also evaluates Act 101 and Act 51 Line of Duty Death benefits claims. Excellent communications skills are vital as you will be conducting interviews, collaborating with various Commonwealth agencies, and promoting inter-bureau relationships with the numerous automotive officers across the Commonwealth.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Tort Claims Representative or Insurance Claims Evaluator 1 (commonwealth titles); or
  • Four years of technical experience in evaluating or processing claims, or interviewing consumers to collect or review financial, insurance, or personal information to determine next actions, and one year of professional experience as a third-party claims adjuster, examiner, or investigator; or
  • One year of professional experience as a third-party claims adjuster, examiner, or investigator, and a bachelor's degree; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • You must possess an active motor vehicle license.
