Crisis Workers provide rapid responses by phone or in person to resolve precipitating stress. Provide intervention, assessment, counseling, screening, and disposition.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Services are provided to adults or children and their families who exhibit an acute problem of disturbed thoughts, behavior, mood or social relationships. Provide rapid responses, by phone or face-to-face contacts, to crisis situations that threaten the well-being of the individual or others, to include but not limited to: intervention, assessment, counseling, screening, and disposition. Collaborate with other DBHS departments; attend and report at staff meetings within the DBHS Agency or any external community-based agencies and organizations. Develop working relationships with community psychiatric units by implementation of 201 and 302 procedures. Responsible for completion of timesheets, expense reports, and documentation. Participate in completion of notes and other necessary service documentation for each consumer served. Assure records are maintained. Attend staffings, meetings, and trainings as needed. At times, may provide coverage in Somerset County. Perform other related duties as required. On occasion, staff may need to work hours outside of the set work week to complete projects, meet work demands or in the event of an emergency.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Part-time employment.
- Work hours could include weekdays 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM or 4:00 PM - 8:00 AM, and/or weekends 8:00 AM - 8:00 AM.
- Work is on a part-time as needed, on-call basis, 0-24 hours/week.
- A different on-call availability/wait hourly rate applies when no active response is occurring during a shift.
- On occasion, staff may need to work hours outside of the set work week to complete projects, meet work demands or in the event of an emergency.
- Effective 1/1/2025, the hourly rate increases to $17.19

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college level course work which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
- A bachelor's degree which includes or is supplemented by successful completion of 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or in a similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- You must pass a background investigation.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
- Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
- Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
