DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Accounting Assistant, you will expertly manage and maintain accurate inmate accounts for your designated institution. Your role will encompass overseeing all inmate releases and transfers, addressing inquiries related to inmate accounts, and promptly resolving discrepancies. You will take on the rewarding responsibility of preparing and issuing release forms and notifications for inmates upon their release.

You will confidently produce memos, provide comprehensive account summaries, and easily handle telephone inquiries. Additionally, you will be responsible for posting accounting data to ledgers, books, registers, and journals, executing routine account adjustments, and preparing daily summaries and monthly cumulative reports. You will also conduct routine trial balances and generate standardized financial reports, ensuring the highest accuracy and efficiency in all accounting processes.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment; 37.5 hours per week.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 60 or 65.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $39,785.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience performing bookkeeping or clerical accounting work; or
  • An Associate Degree in accounting or business administration including or supplemented by six credits of accounting.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of Training Academy in Elizabethtown, PA.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
