missions :

Job Summary and Purpose:
The SSIU Director will lead a laboratory team that plays a critical role in supporting current and next generation vaccines. This is an experienced molecular biologist with a strong background in avian, swine, and/or bovine production, diagnostics, and related tools. This position requires expertise in virology. In addition to scientific knowledge, strong leadership skills are essential to effectively guide the Molecular Virology Team and oversee key projects.
Responsibilities and Key Duties:
Laboratory Supervision & Departmental Collaboration:
  • Oversee activities of the Molecular Virology Team and contribute to essential departmental functions, including:
  • Project planning, setting timelines, and managing budgets.
  • Maintain the LIMS database for Molecular Virology cases and data.
  • Lead daily and weekly team meetings to ensure alignment on objectives and timelines.
  • Resolve intra- and inter-departmental challenges effectively.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop junior team members.
  • Ensure consistent and accurate laboratory practices by managing the team's training materials and SOPs.
Professional and Scientific Development:
  • Establish and maintain collaborations with external academic and research institutions for new reagents, pathogen isolates, technologies, disease models, and assays.
  • Attending professional and scientific meetings to stay updated on advancements in science and technology.
  • Present scientific findings at professional meetings to promote company products and research.
  • Actively engage with CEVA's international teams on global projects, facilitating information exchange and knowledge sharing, especially within the SSIU global platform.
Team Collaboration:
  • Work closely with R&D, Production, Sales and Marketing, and Scientific Support/Product Support teams.
  • Provide training and support during the transfer of data and technology to Sales and Marketing, Production, Quality Control, and other departments.
  • Oversee and implement projects related to R&D, Industrial Operations, and Scientific/Product Support.
  • Write and review protocols and reports for R&D and support functions.
  • Prepare and deliver training materials for internal departments as needed.

Technical / Functional Competencies:
  • Molecular Biology: Proficient in techniques such as next-generation sequencing and other advanced molecular biology methodologies.
  • Virology: Basic understanding of viral diseases associated with Swine and Poultry.
  • Expertise in designing and analyzing laboratory diagnostics associated with virology.
  • Project Management: Strong time management, prioritization, and planning abilities, with proven success in managing multiple projects simultaneously and delivering on deadlines.
  • Technical Writing: Skilled in drafting comprehensive USDA reports, protocols, and research papers with precision and clarity.
  • Independent Work & Knowledge Development: Demonstrated ability to work autonomously while continually expanding technical and theoretical expertise.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and oral communication abilities, with experience delivering clear and effective presentations.
Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in science-related field and/or DVM with experience in animal agriculture
  • Diagnostics: Extensive experience in diagnostics, including the application of molecular biology techniques for the identification and analysis of pathogens in avian, swine, and bovine species. Adept at utilizing advanced diagnostic tools to accurately assess and diagnose diseases, contributing to the development of effective vaccines and treatments.
  • Project management: Proven ability to manage complex projects from conception to completion. This includes setting project timelines, coordinating cross-functional teams, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Skilled in overseeing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a focus on achieving key milestones and budgetary requirements.
  • Data management: Strong expertise in managing large datasets, including maintaining databases such as LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems). Capable of ensuring data integrity and accuracy, as well as utilizing data to inform decision-making processes and support research initiatives.
Physical Requirements:
  • Capable of lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
Working Conditions:
  • Relocation Required: Must relocate to the Kansas City area, specifically the Lenexa, Kansas Laboratory.
  • Work Environment: Primarily based in a laboratory setting.
Travel Required:
  • Position involves up to 10%.
