Summary: Primary responsibility of the Automation & Controls Technician is to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain all plant equipment and company assets, with a focus on instrumentation, automation, electrical, and control systems. Assists other functions within the maintenance operation, as needed and regardless of work type. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following (other duties may be assigned): Troubleshooting - Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments. Understands and utilizes electrical diagrams to enhance advanced troubleshooting of systems and equipment.Fabrication - Fabricates needed repair parts and other items by using maintenance shop machinery and equipment. Fabricates electrical panels and associated equipment for installation and replacement as needed, using blue prints and wiring diagrams, and following directives given.Preventive/ Predictive Maintenance - Ensures reliable operation of machinery and plant equipment by properly completing preventive and predictive maintenance requirements as directed by Management, work order instructions, manufacturer instructions and technical manuals. Assists the Maintenance Management staff to develop and improve current preventive and Predictive maintenance instructions and practices.Predictive Maintenance - Understands and adheres to the principles of the predictive maintenance programs, as established. Assists the Maintenance Management staff to develop and improve current predictive maintenance programs and practices.Documentation - Properly completes maintenance records as required to document the maintenance process. These include, but are not limited to: Work Orders, Hot Work Permits, Confines space entry Permits, Clean Tags, High Care Intervention forms, Parts order Log, and Inventory use sheets. Uses computerized records to document maintenance activities.Parts and Spares - Assists maintenance management staff in maintaining adequate spare equipment, parts, and supply inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing requests for needed equipment and identifying and up-channeling shortages, when noted.Requirements/Qualifications:Skills and Abilities- Must have or develop a broad spectrum of maintenance related skills that include, but are limited to: Carpentry, mechanical machinery repair, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, building maintenance, mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, welding and metal fabrication. Must be able and willing to learn new skills and continuously improve on current skills. Electrical Skills- Must have a strong background in industrial electrical systems; installation, maintenance and troubleshooting. Must be able to demonstrate competence (and National electric code knowledge) in:All forms of metal and PVC conduit installation. Wire sizing and installation practices, including electrical panel construction.The ability to read, analyze, and interpret electrical wiring diagrams and prints, and use them and electrical test equipment to troubleshoot electrical problems.The ability to use and understand the current version of the NFPA electric code book to ensure installations and repairs comply.Performing electrical calculations and sizing using standard electrical formulas.Basic PLC knowledge and ability to work with programmable controllers, A/C drives, and other automation and electronic equipment.Instrumentation, Automation & Controls Skills- Must have a strong background in industrial automation, controls and instrumentation systems; Installation, maintenance and troubleshooting. Must be able to demonstrate competence and knowledge of:Instrument specification, installation, operation, programming and troubleshooting.PLC specification, installation, programming, maintenance, and troubleshooting.VFD (AC drives) specification, installation, programming, maintenance, and troubleshooting.Working knowledge of automation software and other industrial controls software, including writing code, programming, troubleshooting and updating operating systems and drawings.Education and Minimum Experience Required: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); AND a minimum of three (3) years of verifiable electrical, controls, automation and instrumentation experience in a medium to heavy industrial setting, a two (2) year suitable electronics/ controls degree, or a one (1) year suitable electronic/ controls certificate with two (2) years of verifiable experience in a medium to heavy industrial settingRousselot is an equal opportunity employer and gives consideration to qualified applicants without regard to race, age, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or, protected veteran status.
