The Advanced Practice Educator plays a crucial role in providing professional development for Advanced Practice Providers (APP), including Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, within the Center for Advanced Practice. This role enhances clinical competence at the bedside, efficiently utilizing our new simulation center.

As an expert educator, leader, consultant, facilitator, change agent, and researcher, the Advanced Practice Educator supports the organization in delivering quality patient care. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to onboarding new staff members and conducting development and competency assessments, organizing in-service education and continuing education programs to ensure the clinical competence of APP staff, collaborating with leadership and staff on patient care and performance issues, participating in setting standards and maintaining knowledge and skills in assigned areas, acting as a role model of professional behavior to foster a professional advanced practice climate across diverse units.

Additionally, the Advanced Practice Educator demonstrates the principles of the Packard Quality Management System to achieve efficient and effective leadership.

Essential Functions

Employees must abide by all Joint Commission Requirements including but not limited to sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights and ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, participation in ongoing education and training, communication and adherence to safety and quality programs, sustaining compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, and licensure and health screenings.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Service Standards of the Hospital(s).

Onboarding and Curriculum Development:

  • Create and execute comprehensive onboarding curricula for Advanced Practice Providers (APPs).
  • Develop customized training programs for adult learners with diverse backgrounds, enhancing onboarding efficiency.
  • Leverage the new simulation center to improve training outcomes and hands-on experience.

Performance Tracking:

  • Develop and monitor outcomes to track the progress of APPs from traditional and non-traditional backgrounds.
  • Establish and maintain competency standards and metrics for the Center for Advanced Practice.
  • Create onboarding experiences based on evidence across the care continuum to support new staff effectively.
  • Develop self-assessments for new APP hires to evaluate their clinical knowledge.
  • Create a formal preceptor role and establish competency metrics.

Professional Development:

  • Focus on ongoing professional development and education for APPs post-orientation, especially in Quality Improvement (QI) and Evidence-Based Practice (EBP).
  • Develop and track competencies for all APPs, both new hires and seasoned employees, using an online platform, including Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE) and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE).

Clinical:

  • Maintain clinical responsibilities by working directly at the bedside, ensuring practical application of skills.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Masters degree in nursing or Graduate of a Physician Assistant Program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.

Experience: Five (5) years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) or an adult education specialist.

License/Certification: Certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the State of California.

OR

Current licensure as a Physician Assistant in the State of California.

Board Certification as Nursing Professional Development Specialist preferred.

Specialized knowledge in clinical areas with a focus on adult learning and competency development or practical experiences in leading adult learning initiatives.

Advanced skills in assessing and evaluating the competencies of adult learners.

Communication
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, effective across all generational groups.

Planning and ROI
Proficient in developing plans that demonstrate the return on investment for staff education and competency building.

Problem Solving and Improvement
Strong problem-solving abilities and adept at identifying opportunities for improvement in systems involving both people and processes.

Pay Range

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.

Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE): $196,081.60 to $238,992.00
