Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The College of Arts & Sciences, administered by the Dean, consists of seventy-one academic departments, curricula, programs, centers, and Institutes. The College is divided into seven divisions, which are overseen by Senior Associate Deans. All academic departments and curricula are assigned to one of the following three divisions Fine Arts and Humanities, Natural Sciences, and Social Science. A fourth division, Undergraduate Education, houses curriculum and instructional innovation, honors and distinguished scholarships, and student academic support. These Senior Associate Deans, along with the Senior Associate Dean for Operations and Strategy, Senior Associate Dean for Research and Innovation, Senior Associate Dean for Development, and the Director of Communications for the College, all report to the Dean.
During its 200+ year history, the College has grown and thrived and is now numbering almost 1,000 faculty, 600 staff, teaching over 16,600 undergraduate and 2,400 graduate students with annual expenditures of $345M. Eighty-one percent of
UNC-Chapel Hill undergraduate students choose a major in the College. Eighty-seven percent of the credit hours are taught in the College and there are around fifty different undergraduate degrees offered.
The College's Division of Operations, led by the Senior Associate Dean for Operations and Strategy, comprise nearly 70 staff and include the offices of Finance and Budget Management, Human Resources, Information Technology and Data Analytics, Facilities, and Dean's Office administration.
The College of Arts & Sciences HR Shared Services Center enhances operations of many of its departments, curricula, and programs by consolidating their individual business operations into one Shared Services Center. As a single unit, it provides more consistency in the application of policies and increases operational effectiveness. This consolidation of individual business operations allows for more effective training of human resources staff and provide efficiencies for the central HR offices.

Position Summary |
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy.
UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
As a member of the HR Shared Services Center, this position is responsible for initiating both complex and basic personnel actions, facilitating recruitment and hiring processes, and providing HR guidance, interpretation, and application for
SHRA and
EHRA employees in assigned departments. The HR Business Partner works with assigned units to gain an in-depth understanding of the needs, issues, and problems within each unit. This position is responsible for managing the customer relationships to ensure that service levels and performance standards are met. While this position has individual accountability and functions independently in carrying out assigned duties, they will also serve as back-up to other positions within the HR Shared Services Center. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
This role requires a high level of detail, organization and excellent customer service skills. The ability to adapt easily, follow through, complete tasks, and resolve issues is essential. The HR Business Partner must have the ability to maintain records with great accuracy and detail; develop and maintain positive working relationships; and handle work in a highly professional and confidential manner. Position requires the ability to follow guidelines, regulations, and policies, as well as the ability to interpret and explain complex policies and procedures in a clear and concise manner to diverse audiences. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. The successful candidate will possess knowledge of and experience with HR functions and articulate a customer service-focused approach to problem-solving. Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office products (including MS Word, Excel and Access) and the ability to work independently on multiple HR-related functions are essential. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Experience with University human resources and software processes (ConnectCarolina, PeopleAdmin, LawLogix, InfoPorte) preferred. |

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities |
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities. |
