Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Human Resources Staff Associate for the University Human Resources - Talent Acquisition department. This position is within the background check team and plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity and safety of our University by conducting thorough screenings and ensuring compliance with our standards for faculty and staff positions and for the University's Protection of Minors Policy.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Enters, reviews, and adjudicates background checks performed by vendor.
  • Verifies candidate qualifications when appropriate.
  • Maintains communication with applicants and hiring departments.
  • Provides guidance to hiring departments and applicants regarding pre-employment screenings and onboarding policies and processes.
  • Coordinates pre-adverse and adverse actions in compliance with pre-employment screening and hiring policies and processes.
  • Updates records in the Applicant Tracking System and other systems.
  • Reconciles monthly vendor statements, creates invoices, charges departments, and follows up on open invoices.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Overall problem-solving, decision-making, and time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in background checks, talent acquisition, recruitment, staffing, onboarding, policy consultation and advisement, training, and compliance with applicable federal and state employment laws.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Experience in a labor environment.

Equipment Utilized

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to understand Applicant Tracking Systems.

Immunization Requirements

Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Additional infection control and safety policies may apply.
