ENERGY SYSTEMS GROUP is hiring Building Automation Controls Technicians to join our Operations Services team located at our Fort Liberty Facility in Fayetteville, North Carolina. This position is onsite.

The Building Automation Controls Technician is responsible for the troubleshooting, installation, repair and maintenance of HVAC controls and building systems. This individual's role will leverage their knowledge of HVAC systems and components to provide technical support to field mechanics. Candidate shall possess working knowledge of both construction and service of operations, as well as a working knowledge of computer maintenance and repair.

The essential functions of the position include:



  • The Controls Technician will operate and maintain one or more different control systems, provide support to mechanics and operators as well as provide customer service to building occupants
  • Duties involve:

    • Troubleshoot & repair electrical wiring, relay logic, control/safety circuits, and electronic boards
    • Adjusting controls to insure safe and efficient operation of the systems
    • Install, program and start-up new building automation equipment (As Needed)
    • Interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawing as well as construction blueprints
    • Recognize and respond to customer needs by completing preventative maintenance, repair, replacement or adjustment of controls systems as required in a timely and efficient manner
    • Perform all other duties as deemed
    • Above all work safely and comply with all OSHA regulations


  • Maintain control systems including but not limited to servers, operator station, and mobile visualization software
  • Install, repair, maintain and adjust the indicating, recording, telemetering, and controlling instruments used to measure and control variable such as pressure, flow, temperature, motion, force, and chemical composition, using hand tools and precision instruments
  • Support responsibilities may include software installation and configuration; performing technical, operational, and training support to users of personal computers onsite; troubleshooting computer problems, coordinating with IT Department to address needed repairs and computer system problems
  • Maintain master building automation display screens, and all associated programming, building layouts update control points as needed
  • Ability to work after hours for service/emergency calls to maintain working equipment
  • Communicate with supervisors/management as to job progress and issues of assigned work
  • Responsible for safe work practices and implementation of operational excellent
  • Conduct Job Safety Analysis as required
  • Use and ensure good condition of all personal protective equipment
  • Adjust and repair final control mechanisms, such as automatically controlled valves or positioners, and calibrate instruments according to established standards
  • Replaces defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units
  • Install, test, repair, and/or troubleshoot stand-alone PCs, PCs linked to networks, printers, and other computer peripherals
  • Enforce all safety requirements including, but not limited to:

    • Issues work permits in compliance with safe work practices and ensures contractor safety
    • Perform random security inspections and various security checks around the plants
    • Perform Lockout/Tagout of all facility equipment
    • Work in confined spaces and perform confined space entry
    • Wear a Fall Protection when conditions require
    • Operate a man lift or scissor lift and fork lift safely
    • Use appropriate PPE at all times
    • Above all work safely and comply with all OSHA regulations


  • Perform other duties as deemed necessary by management
  • Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record


Your background includes:



  • Three to six (3-6) years in building automation and instrumentation field. Experience with mechanical/HVAC systems
  • High school degree, vocational/technical training school
  • Experience working with Bacnet communication protocol
  • Knowledge of network architecture


A bonus to have:



  • 5 years of related experience in the Energy Services, Performance Contracting, and/or HVAC Industry
  • 2 years of experience with Delta controls; Knowledge of GCL programming language
  • OSHA 30 Training
  • Bachelors of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
