General Summary of Position Under the general direction of the OR Director plans and directs the support operation for the Operating Room. Within Budgetary parameters, insures the appropriate resources (staff, equipment, supplies) are deployed based on number of cases, complexity of cases, and number of OR rooms. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Plans and directs the daily activities of the Suite Attendant staff to meet clinical care requirements including staff assignments. Organizes staff schedules and assignments to meet the clinical schedule and demand for services required 7 days per week. Insures appropriate deployment of staff, equipment and supplies.Participates in planning activities which support the clinical needs.Monitors use of supplies and equipment in accordance with established infection control, safety and use guidelines.Performs personnel management functions for the Suite Attendants to include, but not limited to: interviewing, hiring, scheduling, coaching, and evaluating performance. Plans, provides and evaluates orientation and training of Suite Attendants.Identifies and communicates to staff quality care requirements. Identifies training needs and continuing education opportunities for assigned staff. Conducts bi-monthly staff meetings, records attendance and minutes.Reviews staff performance in relation to unit and departmental expectations. Identifies and communicates performance deficiencies and provides appropriate follow up and counseling. Initiates disciplinary actions, including terminations, as necessary and in consultation with OR Director.Manages designated equipment and supply inventories to support clinical needs, including oversight of inventory, utilization, and distribution. Consults with MMOR staff regarding purchase requests and distribution of clinical supplies. Reviews and approves daily and weekly supply orders, including stock and non-stock items. Consults with charge nurses and OR Director, as appropriate, regarding changing equipment and supply issues related to practice issues.Performs first line trouble shooting/problem solving of equipment, in addition to assisting with the evaluation of new equipment and supplies.Exemplifies Guest and Staff Relations standards in all activities and holds staff accountable for conformity with those standards.Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area. Minimum Qualifications Education
- High School Diploma or GED required or
- the equivalent (GED). required and
- Supervisory responsibilities in an operating room or clinical care stetting. required
Experience
- 3-4 years Experiences in a hospital setting in a similar position required
- Several years experience as a nursing assistant or environmental services associate preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Very organized; must be able to read and write and know basic math.
- Able to work quickly and accurately. Reliable and able to follow detailed instructions.
- Able to work under stress and remain calm in emergency situations.
- Communication skills required to interact with patients and all levels of staff.
This position has a hiring range of $20.17 - $35.04
