University of Minnesota seeks IT Pro 3 DevOps Engineering in Minneapolis, MN, responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining IT infrastructure solutions for research mission; monitoring infrastructure performance and stability; and working to support 200 servers for large-scale data production, software development, and data dissemination at annual petabyte scale, more than 400 terabytes of enterprise-grade storage, big data environments with multiple compute clusters for parallelized computation, and high-speed research scale networking.

Job Responsibilities:

  • 20% Leading and participating in projects to design systems in collaboration with IT operations team, software development teams, and infrastructure providers to support development, testing, and production infrastructure needs, including distributed and parallelized systems, requirements gathering, technology evaluation, development of proof of concept systems, creating recommendations, and implementing solutions
  • 35% Deploying and maintaining development, testing, and production research systems and environments using physical, virtual and cloud infrastructure, and collaborating with campus partners to manage infrastructure, monitor performance, and plan projects to keep infrastructure current and secure
  • 15% Serving as primary expert resource for internal users to onboard, train, and troubleshoot their use of infrastructure and providing deep technical expertise in performance and stability monitoring and troubleshooting of servers, storage, and networks
  • 20% Researching and planning next-generation infrastructure solutions of ISRDI assets, including through consultation with central IT and local IT teams to understand future opportunities and explore feasibility for hosting more ISRDI infrastructure on cloud-based platforms
  • 10% Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • M.S. degree in Computer Science, Information Assurance, or related
  • Two years of experience as software developer;
  • Demonstrated proficiency managing and monitoring Linux servers; proficiency managing web (e.g., Apache httpd, nginx) and database (e.g., mySQL, PostgreSQL) servers;
  • Proficiency with programming language such as Python, Ruby, or Java;
  • Knowledge of high-performance computing (HPC) clusters and toolsets (e.g., Mesos, Hadoop, or Spark).

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: The salary range for this position is $85,363 - $165,082; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
