Position Description Restricted to current City of Minneapolis employees in the Public Works Department Only Develop and maintain business processes to ensure spatial and attribute data integrity so that City departments can apply GIS capability effectively to improve access and delivery of City services. Job Duties and Responsibilities * Provide simple to moderately complex GIS analysis services. * Provide customer support of the ArcGIS application desktop suite * Create and publish maps using pre-defined criteria. * Maintain printers, copiers and plotters including yearly specification and bidding of supplies. * Work with more senior GIS Analysts to ensure data quality and integrity. * Assist and support the implementation of business solutions through the strategic application of GIS technology including GIS modules and third-party products. * Provide day-to-day support to departmental technology users. * Assist in identifying and defining data requirements for City departments and generating analytical products. * Provide direction in the best practices of maintaining Enterprise departmental spatial and non-spatial data sets for GIS. WORKING CONDITIONS: Office setting with limited field work. Attaching a resume and cover letter is required. You must submit both documents to be considered for this position. Required Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Architecture, Computer Science, Cartography, Geography, a closely related field or equivalent MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: N/A LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: N/A Selection Process The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience and an oral examination (100%). It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score (70%) on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process. Background Check The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. Applicants may be required to sign an informed consent form allowing the City to obtain their criminal history and/or verify their qualifications in connection with the position sought. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire three (3) months after it has been established. Interview Selection The hiring authority reserves the right to determine the maximum number of candidates to interview from the established eligible list. If the hiring authority decides to interview other than by exam score order, they may select additional people to interview based on a candidate's education or experience related to the field, work history, or skills uniquely related to the operational needs of the position. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Knowledge of and ability to use ESRI technology. * Basic cartography and geography concepts * Excellent customer service skills * Knowledge of relational database management systems * Ability to work with the Microsoft Office Suite. * Knowledge of systems operations and program techniques and procedures. * Ability to test computer programs and locate problems. * Knowledge of multiple GIS platforms and packages. * Ability to be a self-starter and work independently. * Good analytical and problem-solving skills. * Good communication skills.
