Overview

CentraState Medical Center has an employment opportunity available for a Clinical Leader. The Clinical Leader facilitates culturally sensitive patient care from pre-admission to post discharge by managing, coordinating and monitoring resources to achieve optimal clinical and financial outcomes, resource utilization and quality service. Assists the Nurse Manager in planning, directing and supervising the overall operation of the assigned nursing unit on a 24-hour basis. Functions as a clinical resource and educator to uniUdepartment staff members in area of expertise. Works within the department and as a part CSHS management team to operationalize the patient care and service goals and objectives established by senior management. Bases clinical decisions on evidence-based practice in nursing to achieve desirable outcomes. A patient focused care model utilizing a multidisciplinary approach is used as the method to deliver patient care in the department.



Responsibilities

    Assists the Department Head in the continuing effort made by the department to improve the quality of patient care and services.
  • Provides considerate respectful care focused upon the patients' individual needs.
  • Affirms the patient's right to make decisions regarding his/her medical care, including the decision to discontinue treatment, to the extent permitted by law.
  • Demonstrates the ability to obtain information and interpret information in terms of the needs of the age of the patients cared for. Demonstrates an understanding of the range of care needed based on the age of the patients cared for. Successfully completes life-span education as appropriate.
  • Establishes and implements standards of care based on evidence-based nursing practice and evaluates patient care through the application of the nursing process and compares the delivery of the care to the established standard(s).
  • Assesses the need to develop and implement a professional growth plan for each staff member by enforcing attendance at appropriate in-service training sessions, encouraging staff to attend outside seminars and assigning duties to maximize development. Collaborates with nurse manager when necessary.
  • Appropriately analyzes health status data to determine nursing diagnosis and needs for appropriate nursing care, medical intervention or services of other clinical professionals.
  • Oversees staffing needs and alerts other departments of future staffing needs as needed.
  • Oversees the performance of the Admin Coordinators and implements timely corrective action as needed.
  • Oversees the performance of the Flexible Staffing Unit, safety companions, virtual nurse and staffing office and implements corrective action as needed.
  • Holds administrative coordinators accountable for staffing.
  • Serves as a consultant to nursing and other departments in specific patient care situations.
  • Serves as preceptor/mentor when necessary.
  • Serves as Administrative Coordinator as needed fo the evening shift.
  • Conducts department education programs on a routine basis in collaboration with professional development.
  • Supports and follows through on all HCAHPS initiatives - accountability and education of staff.
  • Submits timely follow up and action plans.
  • Participates in committees and task groups as team leaders, facilitators and members to improve nursing standards, processes and principles.
  • Recognizes changes in patient condition and/or emergencies situations and takes immediate and appropriate actions.
  • Delegates components of care to non-professional caregivers as appropriate and evalutates outcomes.
  • Makes decisions that demonstrate knowledge of nursing practice. Utilizes sound nursing judgment in clinical and patient care management situations.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills in the care of patients and in the coordination of care to assure the achievement of maximum outcome.
  • Plans and directs individual staff member's orientation to the FSU, Admin Coordinator, Safety Companions, staffing and virtual nurses based on individual skills assessment.
  • Participates in the development of unit protocols as needed.
  • Conducts unit conferences to discuss quality issues and quality improvement strategies.
  • Quality Referrals - unit based, follows up on nursing referrals, investigates problem, develops action plan, reviews with Nurse Manager, responds to Quality Management in writing, implements action plan.
  • Follows up on patient complaints or concerns and keeps Director/Nurse Manager informed.
  • Provides or coordinates at a minimum, 1 formal in-service per year to address unit specific needs.
  • Consistently adheres to hospital policy regarding the insertion, maintenance and removal of foley catheters, if applicable.
  • Able to verbalize and demonstrate proper rationale and techniques surrounding all aspects of indwelling urinary catheter care as per policy# 4668.
  • Fulfills the requirements for competencies and completion of annual mandatories surrounding indwelling urinary catheters.
  • Participates and tracks department based performance improvement initiatives.
  • Takes a patient assignment when necessary.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Required
  • Master's Degree in Nursing must be obtained within 3 years from date of hire (or internal transfer) as a condition of employment
  • 2 Years of Inpatient Nursing Experience Required
  • 2 Years of Supervisory/Charge Experience Preferred
  • RN License / New Jersey Required
  • BLS Certification Required
  • Certification in specialty must be obtained within two (2) years of hire/promotion
  • Strong professional, organizational, and interpersonal skills

Compensation Range: $45.00 - $76.50 per hour

The compensation above reflects the established range from CentraState Healthcare System (CSHS) for this position at the time the job was posted. CSHS considers many factors to determine compensation, including education, experience, skills, licenses, certification, and training. As such, team member compensation may fall outside this range.

Additionally, the compensation range reflects base salary and does not include extra shift rates or incentives tied to quality, productivity, etc., as applicable.
