Title: Design for Web and Print 9/10 Month Tenure Track Faculty

WORK SCHEDULE: Primarily days (either traditional classroom setting or online), but must be able to cover night classes if necessary.

JOB OBJECTIVE:

Develop and teach Design for Web and Print courses in both graphic design and web technology concentrations. Aid in curriculum development as it relates to new and emerging media processes in all forms of print and digital design, to include technologies, professional practices, and media ethics. An understanding of new technologies and processes in the industry to include software and equipment. A willingness to work with and recruit new career community partners in the industry.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

60% Develop and teach online and traditional delivery courses in Design for Web and Print (graphic design and Web design) - to include preparation of course syllabi and materials both for classroom/lab and online delivery.

30% Evaluate student learning, maintain class records, contribute to course assessment, management of labs, and equipment.

10% Participate in curriculum development, student advising, professional development activities, departmental meetings, college advisory boards, and committee meetings. Work with other Media Technology staff and faculty to obtain grants, recruit new students, work with advisory committees to develop and modify curriculum. Perform related duties as assigned.

JOB STANDARDS:



  1. Candidates should have the following qualifications: Master's Degree in digital design or related media field from a regionally accredited college or university to include 18 graduate semester hours in web design, graphic design, online instructional development and/or media-related courses preferred OR Bachelor's degree in digital design, graphic design, Web design, or related media field (preference given to BFA in Graphic Design) from a regionally accredited college or university and professional experience sufficient to meet SACS criteria. Tenure will be contingent on applicant obtaining or achieving significant progress towards a Master's Degree as above.
  2. Minimum of 3 years professional experience required.
  3. Preferred minimum of one-year higher education teaching experience beyond the level of Teaching Assistant.
  4. Required solid experience with and continuing interest in advanced digital media for visual communication in Graphic and web design. Demonstration of proficiency with digital media, front-end web design, and social media content marketing. Teaching demonstration will be required at interview. Ability to teach design principles, responsive web design, digital imaging, and multimedia. Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat, Bridge, and related applications. Knowledge of UX/UI design principles, Figma, WordPress and other CMS platforms, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and jQuery, and WCAG accessibility standards.
  5. Digital portfolio demonstrating professional experience/expertise in digital design (must be submitted digitally to the search committee in URL format to be considered for position)
  6. Competency in online delivery of courses and understanding of the importance of creating community with online students.
  7. Understanding of and acceptance of the comprehensive community college philosophy.
  8. Understanding of media convergence and the importance of multidisciplinary education as taught in the Media Technology program at Pellissippi State.


Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% credit of full-time work experience.

CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE/EXPERIENCE:

Broad design industry knowledge and practical applied design experience are required along with the ability to translate that knowledge and experience in the classroom and in online courses. A willingness to participate as a team member to realize the overall goals of the DWP program (in both graphic design and web technology concentrations) and enthusiasm for preparing students for the workplace. A strong desire to work with students and to help them achieve success. Teaching and course development with competence in the DWP curriculum, including courses in design principles; Adobe software including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator; typography; content management systems using WordPress; brand identity design; appropriate media and software tools for encoding various media; delivery system attributes and limitations; design in social media; and e-portfolio development. Experience with both PC and MAC platforms using FTP software.

JOB LOCATION:

The primary job location is the Hardin Valley campus in Knoxville, Tennessee. Travel within our two-county service area may be required. Candidate's must be prepared to teach at any of the college's campuses as needed.

EQUIPMENT:

PC and Mac computers, laser printers, inkjet printers, flatbed scanners, and LCD projectors. Competence in hardware/software required for online teaching: FTP, Internet connectivity, learning management systems, server capabilities and constraints, and server file management.
