About the role

The Plant Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and compliance of plant operations. This position is responsible for monitoring plant systems and overseeing engineering projects. The Plant Engineer collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to implement process improvements, support capital projects, and maintain strict adherence to safety and environmental standards.

Job Requirements:

Candidates should possess a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Chemical, or related engineering field, or hold equivalent qualifications such as a high-level Stationary Engineering license. Additional credentials like an MBA, PMP certification, or PE licensure are highly desirable, with at least 5 years of experience in an industrial plant environment, preferably in power generation or Energy-from-Waste (EfW). Strong hands-on experience with equipment design, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and field commissioning is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including solid Excel skills for data analysis and reporting, along with knowledge of AutoCAD, DCS, and SCADA systems. The role demands excellent organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and independently in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Plant Monitoring and Optimization:

  • Monitor daily performance of plant systems, including boilers and turbines.
  • Manage natural gas usage, ISO-NE power MW bidding, and beneficial reuse water coordination.
  • Verify operational data and ensure accurate entry into the Facility Detail Model.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for improving efficiency and reducing costs.

Maintenance and Reliability:

  • Support predictive and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and develop solutions to enhance equipment reliability.
  • Provide support for Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), including troubleshooting and upgrades.

Project Management and Compliance:

  • Lead or assist in capital projects related to plant improvements and repairs.
  • Ensure NERC regulatory compliance by adhering to operational and documentation standards.
  • Ensure compliance with technical standards, environmental regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Coordinate ash testing to ensure compliance with Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) standards.
  • Assist in boiler reliability programs in collaboration with regional engineering and plant maintenance teams.

Technical Support and Reporting:

  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues and recommend or implement cost-effective solutions.
  • Prepare technical reports, analyze operational trends, and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Maintain and update engineering documentation, including Facility Change Notices and operating procedures.

Leadership and Continuous Improvement:

  • Promote Lean Methodologies and foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
  • Train and mentor plant staff on best practices for operations and maintenance.
