Training and Safety Coordinator

The Training and Safety Coordinator is responsible for identifying training requirements and instituting plans for training new and existing employees. Will provide leadership for the Madison safety performance by performing health and safety assessments, working to improve safety processes and fostering safety engagement at all levels.

Primary Job Responsibilities:




  • Manage the site Training Database by ensuring each job has identified training requirements and track completion of all training



  • Work with Managers and Leads to ensure any new or revised job procedures are reviewed with applicable associates, documented and tracked.



  • Ensure required safety training is completed on an annual basis, utilize Madison Messenger to communicate on a weekly basis and ensure quizzes to demonstrate competency are completed for all associates.



  • Work with Process Improvement Engineer to standardize job procedures and improve efficiency regarding safe work practices, (JHA's) and job certifications.



  • Lead, motivate, and foster a safety-conscious culture in the workplace to reduce incidents and injuries.



  • Manage the Safety Engagement program by encouraging involvement at all level, ensuring the safety engagement boards are updated on a period basis and calculating eligibility for quarterly awards.



  • Conduct regular compliance audits (OSHA, QMS, EMS) and safety inspections of the facility and initiate corrective actions to eliminate hazards and promote a safe work environment.



  • Manage forklift certification program including the use of iWarehouse for impact alerts and pre-shift inspections.



  • Ensure emergency response and evacuation procedures and corresponding practice drills are in place and compliant.



  • Ensure Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are gathered for all hazardous chemicals and available to all associates.



  • Manage Contractor Safety program, work with managers and engineers to ensure compliance with documentation and training requirements.



  • Review and maintain records for accuracy of information and compliance with established procedures.



  • Plan and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations.



  • Assist in the investigation of accidents and injuries with supervisors and managers. Follow thru to make sure unsafe conditions are addressed to prevent reoccurrence.



  • Recognize unsafe acts and make recommendations for improvement





Required Skills:




  • Previous experience with training and or safety



  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills



  • Must be prepared to work flexible or extended hours as necessary



  • Good organizational skills



  • Able to work with associates at all levels of the organization



  • Must be a highly motivated team player that is capable of leading by example to assist others to move to the next level



  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft applications





Physical Requirements:




  • Ability to stand, push, pull & reach for long periods of time. Must be able to lift & carry up to 50 lbs. Ability to maneuver around an array of machinery. Use of hands to finger, handle or feel. Color & peripheral vision; depth perception & ability to adjust focus. Work environment conditions include: exposure to moving mechanical parts; fumes, airborne particles and chemicals; extreme heat & loud noise level in some areas of the facility. Ability to quickly respond to a signal when it appears. Ability to work in an efficient & timely manner, multitasking where necessary. Ability to work with minimal supervision.





  • Ability to perform duties which requires tolerance of standing, repetitive hand movements, continual bending and squatting, near/far/depth/color vision, and inside ambient temperatures
