Description
Job Summary: The Risk Management Officer provides oversight of the enterprise-wide risk management appetite framework, policies, programs, and procedures for managing and monitoring risk exposure derived from banking and financial service activities. Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Assist in the identification and quantification of financial, operational, reputational, and strategic risks for all areas of the Bank.
Help with the development of analyses and reports to support identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting of new or existing risks.
Assist in the review and enhancement of internal controls.
Maintain a strong knowledge of risk management developments or changes within the organization, industry, and market by developing relationships within professional networks and staying current on emerging issues and regulatory requirements.
Communicate risk vision and regulatory requirements to applicable stakeholders.
Lead vendor management program
Research risks associated with proposed products and services as well as changing policies and procedures, and report findings to Management and Audit & Compliance Committee.
Coordinate and serve as point person for external audits and regulatory exams as assigned by CRO.
Serve as a resource to other areas of the Bank as it relates to completing risk analyses of new products and services, or changes to existing products and services.
Expand technical and compliance knowledge of all areas of the Bank through training programs, seminars/conferences, employee interaction, and publications.
Participate in ERM Committee meetings and Audit & Compliance Committee meetings.
Additional Management Responsibilities:
- Enthusiasm to become involved with professional and civic organizations supporting the markets served by the Bank in harmony with the Bank's desired image of being a trusted community resource.
- Be consistent with the Bank's marketing objectives and policies set forth in the Community Reinvestment Act statement and take an active role in the community.
- Perform all supervisory/managerial responsibilities in a manner that fully complies with the Bank's Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Policy and that meets the requirements of all related federal and state regulations. Adhere to all EEO/AA guidelines and regulations in the hiring, placement, promotion, transfer, selection, and training processes.
- Manage and support direct reports by making sound hiring decisions, training each new hire and current staff as needed, and continually mentoring staff to assist in their success.
- Address performance and behavior issues with Human Resources and follow through with appropriate action.
Qualifications
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Sound understanding of all applicable banking regulations to ensure the safety and soundness of the Bank.
Strong financial accounting and analytical skills.
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Ability to maintain a high degree of integrity while handling confidential information.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, regulatory materials, professional journals, and technical procedures.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, regulators, external auditors, clients, customers, and the public.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
Education/Experience/Licenses/Certifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.
5+ years of experience in the financial industry required.
3+ years of audit, compliance, or risk management experience required.
Certified Enterprise Risk Professional designation preferred, or commitment to obtain designation within six months of start date.
