Position Summary
This position reports directly to the Swine Farm Manager in the Animal and Dairy Science Department ( ADS) and ultimately to the Head of ADS. The principal duties of the position include, but are not limited to, 1) providing day-to-day operational support under the direction of the Swine Farm Manager and Sr. Farm Manager of swine operations. 2) direct involvement in feed preparation, facility maintenance and repairs. 3) equipment operation, maintenance and repair 4) working with faculty and farm staff to ensure that the research, teaching and extension missions are accomplished.

Farm Operational/Facilities Support

  • Perform assigned duties under the direction of the Swine Farm Manager.
  • Ensures farm operations and facilities are maintained in a manner to ensure the health and safety of animals. Work involves all phases of swine management for a number of animal scientists, research technicians, and graduate students.

  • Assist faculty, research technicians, and students in collection of research samples and data under the direction of the Swine Farm Manager, Sr. Farm Manager, and Scientists.

  • Assists in artificial insemination and management is gilts and sows.
  • Aids gilts and sows when necessary; process newborn pigs; provides treatment and care for all classes of animals.
