Title: Accounting Assistant / Fiscal Technician Location: Henrico, VA, 23233, United States Pay Rate: $17/Hour on W2 without benefits Duration: 6+ months Shift Timing (Day/ Evening/ Night): 8:00 am to 4:30 pm ( Monday to Friday ) BG Check Required: Yes Job Description: The Department of Health Professions, a diverse and inclusive organization, is seeking candidates for a Fiscal Technician position. This position is in the Accounting Unit of DHP's Finance Division. This position provides accounting support to the Accounting Unit, performing production and specialized accounting tasks. Routine duties consist of recording fee payments in DHP's licensing system (MLO); processing payment refunds and adjustments; performing reconciliations of revenue and daily deposits; auditing and batching daily receipts. The candidate will act as a specialist in the assigned area, performing duties such as reviewing applications for licensure or certification, initiating refunds, processing fee payment and adjustments to correct individual licensing records, and other duties as assigned. This position supports the Board regulatory groups in licensure applications and evaluates and independently processes and reviews applications for the agency. Performs or leads a variety of operational support duties; frequent contacts include internal and external customers to gather information or provide information; may serve as a subject matter expert; answer complex questions; refers unusual problems to higher levels; interprets and applies policies, procedures and guidelines; interprets licensure regulations; may train others on the receipting process. Required Qualification: Demonstrated ability to perform accurate data entry to record demographic and financial information. Demonstrated ability to interpret, understand and apply regulations, policies and procedures. Demonstrated ability to work with complex, detailed information. Experience reviewing financial data for accuracy. Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a team in a high volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness. Demonstrated ability to effectively and tactfully communicate with the public and coworkers orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines while retaining accurate data entry and quality work. Experience with office procedures and practices, including automated/hard copy file maintenance. Demonstrated ability to problem solve and apply knowledge of regulations and procedures. Experience in accounting, cash receipting, revenue collections, or in governmental financial operations such as licensing. Demonstrated experience in work requiring initiative, confidentiality and accuracy with details. Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe and Outlook. High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred Qualifications: College coursework in business administration, accounting, or related curriculum. Previous experience as a fiscal technician in a finance office environment is strongly preferred. Knowledge of licensure database applications strongly preferred.
