Position Summary

The Child Life Assistant is responsible for conducting planned daily activities to further the social emotional, intellectual and physical development of pediatric patients and their siblings to reduce the traumatic effects of illness and hospitalization

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  1. Plans and supervises therapeutic, developmental group and bedside activities to help patients adjust to and cope with hospitalization.
  2. Assists Child Life Specialists as needed in providing support and preparation for medical experiences.
  3. Maintains accurate documentation and performs required clerical duties as assigned.
  4. Contributes to team and patient conferences. Participates in training and supervising child life students and volunteers.
  5. Assists Child Life staff in identifying and providing the educational needs for hospital personnel and the community regarding psychosocial and developmental issues.
  6. Participates in department Performance Improvement and/or LEAN projects.
  7. Assist with coordinating special events and donations accordingly.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:



  • Completion of Child Life Internship is preferred.



Education/Licensure/Certification:



  • A Bachelors Degree in Child Development or related field is preferred.
  • Working towards Child Life certification is preferred.
  • A current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) certification is required.
