The Division of Finance and Administration (DFA) provides services and support to over 50,000 students, faculty, and staff with the mission of advancing UCI's brilliant future and the vision of becoming world-class campus partners. DFA serves the university as planning partners, problem solvers, and solutions providers - striving to make it as easy as possible for people to get the services they need, when they need them.

Facilities Management is responsible for the effective operation of Irvine campus buildings, grounds and utilities; for providing a safe, functionally suitable and aesthetic environment in support of academic, research and public service programs of the University. Providing comprehensive management of campus facilities requires the employment of approximately 325 personnel ranging in classification from custodians and groundskeepers to more technical skilled crafts such as electricians and plumbers, and professional design staff and engineers. These services cover more than 150 buildings of approximately 6 million gross square feet, and1,475 acres of grounds. Facilities Management has an annual operating budget exceeding $80 million in expenditures, with operating funds of $30 million and $15 million for reimbursable campus activities. Project Services a construction department within Facilities Management manages a portfolio of major infrastructure and renovation projects totaling $200M per year.


Your Role on the Team

Under supervision, direct, coordinate, schedule and inspect grounds maintenance work. Perform a variety of Groundskeeper functions in addition to working as Lead Groundskeeper, such as: litter pick-up, cultivating, trimming of shrubs and small trees, fertilizing, planting and irrigation system maintenance. Operate ground power tools and equipment.

The expected pay range for this position is $23.82- $27.63 (Hourly)

Required:

  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Skill to coordinate and direct grounds maintenance.
  • Ability to establish and implement short and medium range grounds development plans.
  • Ability and skill to evaluate own work and documentation for completion and accuracy of data.
  • Ability complete daily work reports completely and accurately.
  • Ability to identify undesirable plant material.
  • Knowledge and skill to operate commonly used grounds equipment and tools.
  • Skill in operating trenchers, tractors, roto-tillers and other commonly used pieces of power driven grounds equipment.
  • Knowledge and ability to maintain irrigation systems.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of commonly used Southern California plant material, their cultural requirements, pests and diseases.
  • Skill to safely use both hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Ability to effectively work independently or in teams.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English orally, electronically or in writing.
  • Ability to follow through and carry out assignments.
  • Apply problem solving skills and use sound judgment.
  • Possession of valid California driver s license.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience coordinate, schedule and inspect grounds maintenance work. Perform a variety of Groundskeeper functions in addition to working as Lead Groundskeeper, such as: litter pick-up, cultivating, trimming of shrubs and small trees, fertilizing, planting and irrigation system maintenance. Operate ground power tools and equipment.

Preferred:

  • Ability to effectively communicate in Spanish orally, in writing or electronically.
