Position Summary:

This position is in the Operation's Probes Quality Department Incoming Inspection providing Incoming Inspection services to Quality, Production, and Engineering departments. This position will report to the Quality Engineering Manager and will require the individual to work with various quality, engineering, purchasing, production and management personnel on a daily basis.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Interprets mechanical engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning & tolerancing symbols, or formulas and confers with management or engineering staff to determine appropriate quality and reliability standards.
  • Create and follow sampling plans to verify product conformity.
  • Ability to work closely with a high-powered microscope, micrometers, calipers, gauge pins, dial indicators, and other measuring & inspection tools to inspect parts within small measurement tolerances.
  • Manages Calibration of Tools used in the IQA department.
  • Documents processes and procedures relating to quality inspections and train technicians on these documents when required.
  • Works with management, purchasing and suppliers to manage and track vendor performance.
  • Adheres to production schedules and prioritizes tasks correctly.
  • Tests products for a variety of qualities such as dimensions and performance
  • Verifies appropriate test methods and equipment calibration range, capability, etc.
  • Records test data, applying good cleanroom practices and quality control procedures.
  • Works with Material Review Board on discrepant material dispositions
  • Knowledge of Non-Conforming Material process for discrepant material.
  • Solid knowledge of fundamental inspection concepts, practices and procedures of Quality Control testing
  • Cross-trained in RMA process to assist when needed.



Education, Experience and Skills Required:


  • Must have 2-4 years of prior experience in quality inspecting.
  • Must be able to use calipers, micrometers, drop indicators, etc.
  • Possesses visual acuity for working with microscopes to identify quality-related defects.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic math, metrology, and good cleanroom practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure documents, and manuals.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and product specifications.
  • Must be available to work overtime and weekends as necessary.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. SolidWorks & Oracle ERP is a plus.
  • Able to manage time and resources well.
  • Confident and flexible team player.
  • Identifies & capitalized on opportunities to improve performance and processes.



Physical Requirements:

This position is split between non-cleanroom and a clean room environment that will require the wearing of protective clothing. Work area has fluorescent lighting and air conditioning. Moderate to loud noise level. The position requires the candidates to work at a computer, and microscope for extended periods of time. Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs is required, with sitting, standing, stooping, bending, or crouching for prolonged periods. Grasping or pinching and manual dexterity are required. Candidates must be able to understand and follow safety procedures. On-call support of manufacturing during off-shifts is required.

The pay range for this role in Carlsbad, CA is between $19.90 and $26.15. The pay range may differ in other locations. FormFactor maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in education, training, skills, relevant work experience, business needs and market demands. Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
