TEMP - Garland Swim Program Instructor

Summary

Responsible for teaching all aspects of the Garland Swim Program.

Salary

$15.00

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform daily teaching of classes.

  • Correctly store and maintain all program supplies.

  • Respond to participant questions.

  • Keep accurate progress records of each assigned student.

  • Effectively communicate with other staff, patrons and supervisor.

  • Wear sunscreen of 30 SPF or higher.

  • Assist with special events and various administrative duties.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrolled in or graduated High School

  • Must be at least 16 years of age

Or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • In high school or graduated high school

  • Experience in working with children and/ or experience in aquatics

  • First Aid and CPR certification

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of general water safety

  • Skill in swimming

  • Ability to teach

  • Ability to carry out departmental emergency procedures

  • Ability to provide exemplary customer service to participants

  • Ability to effectively communicate with participants, parents and staff

  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather

  • Ability to perform physical activity as required, lifting a minimum of forty pounds

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions

Licenses and Certifications

  • Completion of training for the Garland Swim Program

  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred

  • Valid Class C Texas driver's license preferred

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

The incumbent typically works in an outdoor environment with exposure to all weather conditions under direct sunlight six to eight hours per day, four or five days a week. May be required to walk, bend, stoop and lift a minimum of forty pounds.
