Key Responsibilities:

Academic Advising & Degree Tracking:



  • Serve as the primary academic advisor for incarcerated students, ensuring academic progress is tracked and monitored throughout their studies.
  • Work closely with CNS (Conclusive) to ensure student progress is accurately documented.
  • Confirm fulfillment of graduation requirements in collaboration with the registrar and general education committees.


Class Scheduling & Faculty Recruitment:



  • Recruit faculty for inside classes and communicate LIFE Program scheduling and processes.
  • Provide faculty with the necessary resources, support, and guidance to enhance the learning experience for incarcerated students.
  • Coordinate with the registrar to list class offerings and enroll inside students.


Reporting & Compliance:



  • Provide attendance and graduation reports as requested by the Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC).
  • Maintain regular communication with TDOC regarding schedules, policies, and updates.


Student Recruitment & Admissions:



  • Recruit outside students and provide them with information about the program's offerings and application process.
  • Coordinate interest meetings with the correctional facility to promote the program.
  • Administer and evaluate entrance exams and application essays for new students.
  • Acquire and evaluate transcripts and character letters for prospective students in collaboration with the registrar.


Academic Support & Enrichment:



  • Develop and implement academic support and enrichment opportunities to enhance the inside students' educational experiences.
  • Coordinate and deliver pre-college programming for incoming inside students to ensure they are well-prepared for academic success.
  • Observe classes and advise facilitators on best practices to ensure quality instruction.


Faculty & Volunteer Management:



  • Maintain volunteer certification records and communicate requirements for all faculty, staff, outside students, and volunteers.
  • Ensure faculty, staff, and volunteers are up-to-date with necessary certifications and training.
  • Prepare memos for facilities regarding schedules, volunteers, and necessary supplies.


Materials & Supplies:



  • Order and deliver textbooks, supplies, and other necessary materials to support inside students' academic needs.
  • Ensure that all required academic materials are available and delivered in a timely manner to facilitate uninterrupted learning.


Communication & Coordination:



  • Serve as the primary point of contact for faculty, staff, and outside students regarding policies, schedules, and academic updates.
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with all stakeholders to ensure the smooth operation of the program.


New Admissions & Enrollment:



  • Manage the enrollment process for new students in collaboration with the registrar.
  • Share the call for applicants and coordinate with the facility to ensure that the admissions process is seamless and effective.


Required Skills and Qualifications:



  • Strong knowledge of academic advising and educational policies.
  • Ability to work with incarcerated populations and understand their unique educational needs.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and collaborate with diverse teams.
  • Experience in higher education administration, faculty recruitment, and academic support services.
  • Ability to maintain compliance with TDOC regulations and standards.


This position is integral to the success of the LIFE Program, ensuring incarcerated students receive the academic support they need to succeed in their studies and ultimately graduate.
