Summary
University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy Head Coaches manage all aspects of their respective team operations including prospective student-athlete recruitment, practices, game management, team rules, responsibility for the team while traveling and meeting overall team goals. Coaches also work directly with athletic department staff to execute administrative duties including checking the eligibility status of current and prospective players, assisting with game management and ensuring that student-athletes are progressing toward completion of the degree program while instilling individual character development.

The UHSP Eutectics participate in National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) sports as a member of the American Midwest Conference. Teams include men's and women's basketball, golf, soccer, cross-country, track and field, volleyball, esports, co-ed competitive cheer, men's baseball and rugby, and women's softball and lacrosse.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Create season plans for practices, game preparation, and conditioning activities
  • Develop team strategy and analyze performance of student athletes
  • Monitor, teach, instruct, and motivate athletes during practice and games
  • Within athletic department and NAIA guidelines perform lead recruitment efforts and retention of student-athletes
  • Attend conference coaches' meetings and adhere to all University, department, and conference performance standards
  • Administrative duties such as verifying travel, coordinating scholarship awards, developing, and submitting team equipment requests, etc.
  • Execute professional development plan such as attending conferences and coaching clinics
  • Mentor student-athletes
  • Promote good public relations for the program, the Athletics Department, and University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy
  • Monitor and advise prospective student-athlete throughout the process of receiving an eligibility determination from the NAIA Eligibility Center (a.k.a. PlayNAIA)
  • Serve as Campus Security Authority (CSA) for Title IX issues, work with Athletics Administration on student athlete conduct and policy violations and support administration in enforcing other student conduct matters.
  • Correspond with coaches of opposing teams for scheduling and general information.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements with and communicate requests to appropriate department staff

Position Challenges:
  • Limited available practice time and use of facility due to student academic schedules
  • Intercollegiate practice schedule is required to revolve around classes and create flexibility in terms of student needs
  • Outdoor sports utilize rented off-site facilities which may pose limitations on available practice and game times
  • Academic environment creates a unique situation for coaching any sport at this level due to the demands on students' time
  • Students are expected to keep studies as a first priority and flexibility is required relative to test schedules

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to demonstrate necessary skills for the sport
  • Physical skills required to teach drills and demonstrate plays
  • Transport or move necessary equipment for use at practices and games


Qualifications
To succeed in this role you will need:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in education, fitness and recreation, sports management, or exercise science

  • 2-3 years coaching experience at collegiate level preferred or commensurate experience

  • Strong commitment to the academic success of student-athletes

  • Professional, business, leadership acumen: familiar with NAIA rules and regulations; professional development

  • Exceptional leadership and strong organizational skills

  • Superior communication skills and ability to appropriately use business and social media platforms as well as knowledge of and access to standard business technology

  • The ability to represent the philosophy and educational goals of University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy

  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as the schedule dictates

  • Knowledge of NAIA rules and regulations is preferred
