This is a hybrid work role that will primarily telecommunicate with the expectation of occasional on-site work.




JOB SUMMARY
The Supervisor is responsible to oversee daily workflows for their specific area of responsibility, (IP, OP Clinics, OP Surg, or CDI). Ensure appropriate staff coverage for all WQ's and other functions. Promote and support Teamwork, performance excellence, accountability and professionalism. Lead and support process improvement. Ensure their Teams have the education and tools they need to successfully perform to the highest levels of quality and compliance. Supervisors report directly to the Manager over their area.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Job Duties



  • Assist and Support the Manager:
  • Manage the daily workflows for assigned area of responsibility
  • Manage staffing to ensure coverage for all WQ's and other functions:
    Planning ahead for scheduled absences, Holidays, etc.
    Make recommendations to Manager regarding the need for OT, and/or Contract backfill
  • Lead and support process improvement to ensure effective/efficient workflows
  • Lead and support performance excellence, accountability, and professionalism from all
  • Communicate at a professional level, verbal and written
  • Conduct Monthly Staff Team meetings
  • Ensures all new and transfer hires, and contract staff are properly trained on all departmental coding policies and procedures and information systems
  • Lead and/or support project management internal to the Department and collaboratively with other Departments; Revenue Integrity, PFS, Compliance, etc.
  • Promote and support Teamwork
  • Promote and support the UTSW Quality initiatives and Department Quality Standards
  • Promote and support Coding/CDI education and compliance
  • Participate in the hiring process
  • Maintains an expert level of knowledge of coding related guidelines and practices
  • Offer a broad knowledge of Revenue Cycle operations



QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Required



  • Experience
    3 years of acute hospital-based Coding Supervisor experience. Preferable in an Academic environment. and
    Experience working in a remote environment.
    An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

    (RHIA) REGD HEALTH INFO ADMINIST Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) Upon Hire or
    (RHIT) REGD HEALTH INFO TECHNOLO Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) Upon Hire or
    (CCS) CERT CODING SPECIALIST AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Upon Hire or
    (CPMA) Cert Prof Medical Auditor AAPC credential Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) Upon Hire or
    Certified Professional Coder Hospital (CPCH) Upon Hire or
    Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) Upon Hire or
    (CIRCC) Cert Inter Rad Cardio Coder Certified Interventional Radiology Cardiovascular Coder (CIRCC) Upon Hire or
    (CCDS) Cert Clinical Documentation and
    (RN) REGISTERED NURSE Required if primary work area is CDI



Preferred



  • Education
    Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management or a closely related field. or
    Associate's Degree in Health Information Management or a closely related field.
