Your Opportunity as the Technologist, Coffee Research & Development -Advanced Coffee Science Team

In this role, you will be a key resource on all standard coffee product testing for product development and release to the trade. You will perform and develop analytical testing of beverage samples in accordance with approved methods and company's procedures/policies. Rigorous documentation of all testing activities is required, including the maintenance of laboratory notebooks, preparation of detailed laboratory reports, investigation reports etc.

Location: Orrville, OH Corporate Offices

In this role you will:

  • Recommend the most proficient equipment to optimize given sample analysis.
  • Responsible for characterization of coffee beverage samples: physical proprieties (e.g., particle size analysis) and chemical testing using different techniques like HPLC, GC, NIR, stability testing etc.:
  • Responsible for the operation of the analytical instruments, familiar with Chem Station and Mass Hunter
  • Load and run analytical instruments.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on analytical instruments and other lab equipment.
  • Analyze test results and report summary and conclusions to the team.
  • Ability to plan and manage lab projects to deliver high quality results on time.
  • Execute DOE's and generate quality data in partnership with senior resources.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance of all laboratory instruments.
  • Contribute to project activities including working across disciplines and functions.
  • Write SOPs, programs, specifications, and protocols necessary for laboratory operations.
  • Technical validation of all above
  • Updates SOPs with necessary changes and revisions while ensuring proper document control.
  • Providing analytical chemistry expertise on day to day plant operations and project teams
  • Utilize critical thinking to troubleshoot all testing/sampling and instrument abnormalities to ensure proper reporting of results
  • Timely reporting of results and trends. Reporting of abnormalities of trend data and taking immediate action
  • Follows all safety policies and quality expectations.
  • Training and qualification of lab technicians

What we are looking for:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in chemistry or related fields
  • Prior experience in Analytical Chemistry
  • Strong teamwork skills, with the ability to lead, participate and/or work directly with cross-functional teams and/or individuals.
  • Able to work and communicate with people of diverse backgrounds and technical levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Ability to lead and integrate safety into laboratory activities.
  • Strong troubleshooting and critical thinking skills.
  • Expertise implementing and writing validation studies
