Role Description

Form Energy is hiring a Vision Engineer to design, implement, and optimize machine vision and profilometry systems for our advanced manufacturing operations. In this role, you will be part of our manufacturing process development team . You will be the subject matter expert, responsible for developing novel algorithms and defining the equipment we use to monitor and control the quality of our iron-air batteries and battery components.

This role will be located at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV, which is just a short drive outside of Pittsburgh, PA. Relocation assistance is available.

What you'll do:
  • Develop and implement machine vision/profilometry solutions for quality inspection, defect detection, and process monitoring. Specify, procure, validate, and upgrade vision system components such as cameras, lenses, lighting, and software.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate high precision inspection systems into production lines and automation platforms. Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of vision systems in a high-volume production environment

  • Analyze vision system performance to identify areas for improvement in accuracy, reliability, and speed.

  • Lead efforts in root cause analysis and corrective actions related to vision system findings. Utilize vision system data to diagnose issues, identify trends, and improve manufacturing processes. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to vision systems and equipment.

  • Train production staff on the operation and maintenance of vision systems. Maintain comprehensive documentation for vision system design, development, and implementation.

What you'll bring:
  • 3+ years of experience in developing and maintaining vision systems in a manufacturing, preferably in the battery or automotive industry.

  • Demonstrated experience developing vision system platforms (e.g., Cognex, Keyence, Gocator, iRVision, Halcon) and programming languages (e.g., Python, C++, OpenCV).

  • Strong understanding of image processing algorithms, optics, and lighting principles.

  • Hands-on experience with industrial automation systems (e.g., PLCs, robotics)

  • Familiarity with advanced defect detection techniques, AI-based vision systems, and SPC methodologies.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
