The Manager, Legal Support provides day-to-day and long-term management of Assistants in support of attorney workflow in the Tampa office. The Manager acts as the liaison between Administration, Human Resources, department chairs, practice group leaders and the team. The Manager communicates and enforces policies and procedures, resolves issues that impact productivity, manages workflow and ensures that performance meets firm standards. This person must effectively problem solving with the ability to exercise sound judgment in decision making and maintain discretion and respect for confidentiality. They must also have outstanding comprehension, communication, and interpersonal skills to communicate courteously and effectively with attorneys, business professionals, clients and vendors.



Responsibilities

    In conjunction with the Director of Regional Administration and Operations, assists in the creation of overall strategies and actively participates in the development, interpretation, administration and communication of departmental and firm policies and procedures
  • Manages performance and conduct through guidance, coaching, mentorship, or disciplinary action, as appropriate, including working closely with the Manager, Human Resources to ensure appropriate action and documentation is on file while maintaining the highest level of confidentiality
  • Prepares, writes and conducts annual performance reviews for direct reports; gathers input from attorneys, timekeepers and Assistant Team Leads; meets with Manager, Human Resources and/or Director, Regional Administration and Operations as needed; recommends appropriate performance rating and salary; conducts performance review session with employee and presents annual compensation statement
  • Designs and implements assignments to ensure adequate team coverage and balanced workloads
  • Consults with office administration on recommended changes in utilization of the team
  • Coordinate new hire process and conduct orientation and facilitate training for new hires
  • Coordinate and oversee social programs to include milestone acknowledgements, staff appreciation, wellness events, holiday events and all other social events
  • Communicates and enforces firm policies and procedures to direct reports
  • Ensures that teams deliver high-quality work in a timely manner
  • Approves time off, paid and unpaid, in accordance with firm policies while ensuring equitable treatment of all direct-reports
  • Reviews and approves weekly schedule to ensure coverage for planned and unplanned absences, prioritizing coverage according to most critical need
  • Manages issues involving conflict within the Assistant Team or with attorneys
  • Coaches Assistant Team Leads on providing timely feedback and documenting issues as they develop
  • Participates in the interviewing and selection process of new local office assistants and administrative assistants


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or related field required
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a human resources, office administration or related position required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of people management experience required
  • Prior law firm experience preferred
  • Must have strong follow-up and follow through ability to gather information and meet deadlines #LI-Hybrid
