Tax Accountant

Job Description:

The Tax Accountant is responsible for timely and accurate preparation of sales and use tax related documentation to support timely and accurate filing of tax returns and other tax obligations.
  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of monthly sales and use tax data.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual property tax filings.
  • Assist in gathering and reviewing sales tax exemption/resale certificates.
  • Responsible for filing of business license, annual reports, and other miscellaneous tax filings.
  • Responsible for monitoring and updating tax calendar.
  • Assist in preparation of annual 1099 IRS compliance and work closely with accounting to ensure proper W-9 or required tax
  • documents are maintained.
  • Assist in the process of tax audits with various external auditors and tax advisors, federal, state, and local governmental
  • agencies.
  • Assist in the preparation of tax journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Correspond with taxing authorities to resolve tax notices.
  • Research federal, state, and local laws & regulations and proactively monitor legislative changes.
  • Assist with documenting key controls for tax department internal control requirements.
  • Assist with other ad hoc projects on an as needed basis.
  • Perform other duties that support the overall objective of the position.
Education Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, taxation, or related field.
  • Or, any combination of education and experience which would provide the required qualifications for the position.
Experience Required:
  • 3+ years of multi-state corporate tax experience in a corporate tax or similar experience with a major accounting firm.
  • Experience with tax compliance software preferred.
  • Experience with Vertex or other indirect tax software preferred.
  • Experience with SAP preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (word, excel, outlook) with advanced skills in excel.
  • Skill in: Strong writing and oral presentation skills. Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to: Prioritize workload and multi-task, teamwork orientation; ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to: Exhibit proactive, confident decision-making skills, and the ability to work autonomously.
  • Ability to: Establish goals and support departmental and corporate objectives.
  • Ability to: Effectively communicate across cross-functional departments.
