We are seeking a Plant Weld Instructor to join our federal team at our York, PA plant. We're keeping the Navy cool. Literally. Our team at the Grantley Plant custom designs, develops and manufactures complex chilled water HVAC and refrigeration equipment for Navy vessels around the world. Responsible for providing technical training to welders in blueprint reading, part layout, welding power supply diagnostics, and material concerns. Responsible for set-up of new welding equipment, ensuring proper operation of the new equipment, and teaching others the proper use of this equipment. Supports Weld Engineering in developing solutions for production problems related to materials, processes, and tooling. Responsible for the training and certification of all welding and brazing staff on a timely, cost-effective basis that meets or exceeds all internal and external specifications.

As a Plant Weld Instructor, you will:
- Set up and administer welding tests by selecting the appropriate weld/brazing performance test (WPT/BPT) for the requested Welding/Brazing procedure specification.
- Maintain Welder/Brazer qualifications and records of employee qualifications to comply with applicable codes and specifications (Lab and qualification records) and WPS/PQR reports.
- Train Welders/ Brazers on practical hands-on teaching of new techniques and upgrading operators to their current techniques and processes to comply with acceptance standards criteria.
- Manage weld school schedule (Testing and Training) for Welder/Brazers performance and procedures requirements. (ESD, Brazers' audit, Navy welder/Brazer workmanship)
- Weld/Braze stamp control per required WPS.
- Revise WPS/PQR as required.
- Order base material for required performance and procedure testing.
- Support production departments welding and brazing concerns and equipment issues.
- Provide support to welders for manufacturing processes in accordance with the applicable operational method sheets.
- Support and provide input for improvements to processes, methods, tooling, and production controls for new processes.
- Support welders as they transition into new workstations
- Operate in accordance with the applicable safety rules and regulations requirements.
- Support quality department on clarification of term and definition of welding /brazing minimums.
- Support Lean Manufacturing
Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge of welding fillet welds in all positions using the SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW processes.
- Knowledge of groove welds with backing plate using the SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW processes.
- Knowledge of groove welds without backing plate using the SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW processes.
- Knowledge of open-root pipe using SMAW and GTAW processes. Knowledge of setup and operation of Oxyacetylene Welding and Cutting and Plasma Cutting equipment.
- Knowledge of weld joint geometry and welding terminology.
- Knowledge of basic welding drawings and Welding Symbols.
- This position requires extensive knowledge and skills of print reading, part layout, welding power supply diagnostics, materials, Navy MIL Standards, ASME Standards, and WPS & MOS specifications.
- The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 40 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience with new products and process introductions along with a working knowledge of lean manufacturing practices is preferred.
- Well-developed communications skills, both verbal and written and basic computer skills, including Word and Excel is preferred.
Preferred Education:
- This position requires an Associate's Degree in Weld Engineering or three (3) to five (5) years of progressive, hands-on welding experience.
