Qualifications

Education and Experience: Associate degree and one year of experience in an administrative role within the fire service, first responder, or safety industry.

Substitute Experience for Education: Professional experience in an administrative role within the fire service, first responder, or safety industry may substitute for the associate's degree on a year-for-year basis up to two years.

NSQs: A valid Tennessee vehicle operator's license will be required for employment in this classification.

Overview

Under general supervision, is responsible for fire service accreditation and certification work of average to complex difficulty; and performs related work as required. An employee in this class is responsible for overseeing accreditation and certification related to the fire service for the state of Tennessee.

Responsibilities

  1. Maintains accreditation with International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) and Pro Board.
  2. Reviews and maintains accreditation documents and test bank correlations. Mentors staff and customers on the accreditation and FFC processes to assist in processing standard changes and test documents.
  3. Ensures the FFC is ready for site visits and updates of standard changes, including National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Code consolidation timelines.
  4. Ensures FFC testing and certification program is operated in a fair and consistent manner in accordance with state rules, regulations, and applicable NFPA standards. Audits each contractor and coordinator to observe testing processes. Identifies issues of concern and makes recommendations for improvements to customers and/or processes. Assists with or administers tests/practical assessments as needed.
  5. Reviews NFPA professional qualification standards to ensure compliance for accreditation. Validation and correlation work will be accomplished to IFSAC and PB standard on forms or electronically. Provides suggestions with amending rules/procedures to ensure fair, secure, and equitable testing in accordance with IFSAC, Pro Board, and NFPA 1000 requirements.
  6. Validates and correlates written and practical test items by working with subject matter experts to review and edit test items.
  7. Maintains advanced knowledge of NFPA professional qualifications standards, testing methodology, validation processes, and TN Fire Fighting Commission rules and procedures.
  8. Supervises support staff to ensure timely and accurate work is being produced.
  9. Attends all internal meetings and mandatory training. Attends and participates in Commission meetings.
  10. Attends IFSAC and Pro Board conferences and training to maintain current applicable trends and best practices. Attends state and regional fire service association meetings.

TN Driver Standards

State of Tennessee positions that may involve driving responsibilities require candidates to meet the following minimum driver qualifications:

  • A valid driver's license
  • For the past five years, the candidate's driver record must not have record of the following violations: driving under the influence (DUI), reckless driving, license suspension for moving violations, more than 4 moving violations.
