The School of Dance University of Arizona is part of the Arizona Arts division, which serves as a gateway to visual and performing arts experiences, programs, and assets on the University of Arizona (U of A) campus. The School of Dance seeks applicants for a Part time Assistant Professor of Practice (Career-Track) starting August 1, 2025. A top ranked program at a public university, we welcome applicants from a broad spectrum of dance practices with expertise in Jazz styles. The successful candidate will lead studio practice and lecture courses and create performance works in their area of specialty. The candidate will contribute to the School of Dance through teaching, service, and creative research that contributes to the School, College, and University. Duties & Responsibilities

Teaching
* Foster a pluralistic learning environment and a sense of dignity, belonging, and empowerment for all students including first generation and underrepresented populations.
* Contribute to curriculum development, faculty governance, and administrative responsibilities of the School and College.
* Contribute to collaborative initiatives across the College of Fine Arts, Arizona Arts division, and the greater university.

In addition to teaching within primary technical style, candidates may teach the following dance practices/courses:

  • Choreographic Pedagogy and Mentoring
  • Improvisational Forms
  • Music and Dance Collaboration
  • Business/Careers in Dance
  • Dance History-including non-western histories
  • General Education Large Lecture Courses in-person/online
  • Dance Technology and Digital Media

Research and Creative Activity

  • Research, develop, and present choreographic or other works in support of the School curriculum and student development.
  • Maintain regional, national, or international profile through the delivery of creative research in external venues or outlets.

Service

*Contribute to inclusive public engagement, leadership, partnership, or outreach with diverse communities.
*Contribute to collaborative initiatives across the College of Fine Arts, Arizona Arts division, and the greater university.

Other duties as assigned in consultation with the School Director.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

*Demonstrated ability to implement innovative pedagogies and classroom strategies that foster equitable and inclusive learning experiences.
*Ability to cultivate an inclusive classroom that enhances personal growth and identity development for students.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs

Minimum Qualifications
  • MFA, MA in Dance or Equivalent Professional Dance Experience
Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong professional experience in teaching Jazz at the university or professional level.
  • Expertise in Western and non-Western Jazz dance forms, such as Latinx, African Diaspora, Vogueing, and Salsa within the Jazz idiom will be considered. Broadway Styles, Giordano, and Luigi among other Jazz styles will also be considered
  • Proven track record in choreographing and restaging creative works for professional concert, dance, and/or theatre performances.
