Public Health Intern
Job Description Westat's 11-week summer internship experiences will be hybrid at one of our U.S. office locations. Our interns can expect to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
The program will begin on Monday, June 2, 2025, and end by August 15, 2025. During the summer internship program, you will be assigned a project deliverable and will present during the final week of the program. You will also attend educational programs and networking events.
A hybrid work arrangement with 1-2 days onsite at a Westat office is preferred. This is a U.S. based position; pay rate for this role is $30/hr.
Job Summary: The intern will work on a mix of projects within public health topics offering experience in program evaluation, quantitative analysis, statistical software programming, and dissemination of findings. The successful candidate will work with project directors and staff and gain quantitative analysis and results dissemination skills applied to federal public health programs impacting our nation's health.
Job responsibilities:
- Preparing and cleaning data from multiple sources, such as demographic, geographic, education, and employment-based data.
- Performing statistical analyses and modeling tasks, such as analysis of variance, chi-squared contingency tables, and regression analysis.
- Summarizing statistical analyses, using tables and data visualizations.
- Applying computational skills in various statistical environments.
- Assisting with developing reports, presentations, and briefs for a wide range of audiences.
Basic Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Doctoral degree in public health, social sciences, or related field.
- Demonstrated experience with programming using SAS and/or R.
- Demonstrated knowledge of statistical analysis and modeling. Knowledge can be demonstrated through education, training, or experience.
- Experience with survey distribution software REDCap and/or Qualtrics.
Other Required Skills:
- Demonstrated communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience with MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
