HX5 is currently seeking a Lead Systems Engineer to join our team in Cleveland, Ohio in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will act as the lead systems engineer for the Next Generation Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator (Next Gen RTG) project. This work will involve leading a multi-disciplinary engineering team for all aspects of systems engineering and integration (SE&I) efforts, insight to industry partner activities, successful execution of life-cycle technical reviews, and technical review of products and deliverables.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:



  • Execute and evaluate systems engineering processes through all project phases
  • Coordinate systems engineering activities with the NASA customer, industry partners, and other collaborators
  • Support cross-cutting systems engineering areas such as technical planning, technical assessments, and risk assessments
  • Support schedule and budget formulations, insight of contracts, and technical review boards and panels


The selected candidate will lead the Next Gen RTG systems engineering team, and this work is monitored by the Science and Space Technology Systems Branch at NASA GRC, which provides leadership in systems engineering to enable science and space technology programs and projects.

Required Skills:



  • Knowledge or experience with NASA systems engineering processes and specifically for space flight hardware systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to inform and update the project and other relevant stakeholders
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently
  • Committed to successful collaboration with the NASA team and industry partners


Desired Skills:



  • Experience working with NASA
  • Experience or knowledge of thermoelectric, electrical, and similarly related Next Gen RTG disciplines


Education/Experience:

Completed at least a bachelor 's degree with a STEM-related major, from an accredited program, with the following education and experience:



  • Bachelor of Science degree with 20+ years of relevant experience
  • Master of Science degree with 15+ years of relevant experience


Other Position Requirements:



  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
