Responsibilities

Enhance fiscal responsibility in the Cardiovascular Services Department by ensuring effective systems for reimbursement, monitoring compliance with Medicare and other reimbursement agencies. Monitors patient charges and assists in resolving patient billing issues to facilitate accurate and timely computer-based patient billing.
* Coordinates charging functions for supplies, equipment, and services.
* Supervises Department Coder for accurate and timely entering of charges and audits of charge journal.
* Analyses management reports for usage and cost.
* Updates supply charges on an ongoing basis.
* Facilitates reimbursement for expenses by communicating current reimbursement regulations appropriately.
* Resolves billing issues as it relates to the Cardiovascular Services Department.
* Effects positive interactions with the Patient Accounts and Finance departments.
* Functions autonomously and claims ownership for service represented.
* Collect data and prepare reports (utilization reports, statistics, and financial analysis) as requested to enhance the daily operation of the department.
* Maintains the department Chargemasters which includes developing charges for supplies and procedures.
* Serves as the Cardiology representative on the Chargemaster Committee.
* Continuous communication with Patient Accounts to see that AR is met and denials are reviewed and addressed in a timely manner.
* Works with Patient Accounts to see that appeals for reimbursement are prepared correctly and appropriate documentation is present.
* Educate physicians on topics concerning documentation, CPT, codes, and ICD-9 codes.

Prepares departmental budgets, manages departmental resources and uses financial, productivity and outcome data to ensure effective of costs and to meet the fiscal objectives of the organization.
* Demonstrates understanding of various expense and revenue accounts.
* Demonstrates knowledge of payer and reimbursement factors that impact the operating budget.
* Prepares and monitors budgets which reflect Methodist fiscal philosophy as well as identifying resource needs of the department.
* Prepare department operations budget by analyzing operating needs, projected revenue and expenses, and manages capital expense budget as required.
* Use outcome data to determine resource needs of the department.
* Review monthly financial statements and FTE reports, preparing variance reports and communicating variances and/or changes to the Director.
* Submits assigned financial reports accurately and on time.
* Monitors inventory and assist in purchasing of new products and equipment.
* Assist in developing and enforcing policies and procedures related to purchasing and cost control.
* Knowledgeable of unit specific equipment and tracks trends in equipment utilization, breakdowns, etc.
* Controls and monitors overtime and use of call and earned time.
Assures that excellent patient care is delivered by high performing staff.

* Manages staff in their development of clinical, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
* Manages workload assignments to ensure fair, reasonable work load distribution.
* Manages resource allocation and resource management are in line with budgeted targets.
* Follows up on unusual occurrences/medication errors, ensure appropriate documentation and notification of appropriate personnel.
* Shares and promotes organizational philosophy, strategic planning, and nursing strategic plan.
* Meets with staff and physicians on a regular basis.
* Goal driven, setting high performance targets for reporting areas and assisting to attain outcomes.
* Serves as an advocate for technical and nursing staff to physicians, executives, HR and others.
* Functions as chief retention officer and assists HR in recruitment efforts.
* Ensures Lean performance activities are identified and implemented.
* Assures that the care delivery team has the tools/resources to deliver outstanding service and patient care.
* Uses corrective actions according to policy and procedure for the purposes of education, modification of behaviors, and improved performance.
* Identifies staff satisfaction survey results, and continuously solicits feedback from staff regarding ways to improve employee perception. Collaboratively develops/implements actions to improve employee perception.
* Demonstrates clinical competence and perceived as a clinical resource to staff.
* 100% of staff are compliant with required competency testing.
Promotes Cardiology Service Line striving for integration of services within UnityPoint Health, UnityPoint Clinics and regional locations.
* Integrates the UnityPoint Clinic Cardiovascular Service, with UnityPoint Health to provide consistency and efficiencies. Knowledgeable of the full continuum of care and the role each area plays in the patient process.
* Represents Cardiology Services in community promotions.
* Coordinates with Customer Development, Marketing, and others to educate and inform physicians, payer sources and the community.
* Regularly seeks input from physicians regarding satisfaction with level of patient care and/or quality concerns.
* Keeps Director informed and submits written reports accurately and on time.
* Demonstrates support for departmental and institutional leadership and Methodist Heatlh Services Corporation.
* Fosters a culture within Methodist that promotes prevention, detection, and resolution of conduct that does not conform to established standards, regulatory requirements, and Methodist ethical and business policies.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $48.03per hour - $82.61per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
