Job Summary:

IBEX is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to support the Directorate of Public Works (DPW) at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield. The role involves leading the design and development of HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems for both new construction and renovations of government facilities. This individual will be responsible for delivering high-quality design products, performing on-site field verifications, coordinating with interdisciplinary stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with all applicable building and safety codes.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Serve as a lead designer for HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems across a wide range of facilities.
  • Conduct field-verification of existing conditions and incorporate findings into design solutions.
  • Prepare complete design packages including plans, specifications, cost estimates, and supporting CAD documentation.
  • Ensure all deliverables comply with applicable codes such as NFPA, IFC, UFC, and local building/safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with Project Execution Branch One and Branch A, Technical Managers, the Fire Department, Construction Branch, and Public Safety.
  • Screen and resolve design review comments; initiate corrective actions to address technical discrepancies.
  • Maintain a high standard of professional care to minimize project delays, design errors, and cost-related change orders.
  • Adhere to and contribute to internal Quality Control (QC) and support Quality Assurance (QA) protocols.
  • Prepare digital design files using Government-furnished CAD software in support of DPW deliverables.
  • Maintain current compliance with all mandatory training and certifications, including Cyber Awareness Challenge, Information Assurance Level I, OPSEC, iWATCH, and TARP, as required by the contract and installation access policies.
  • Travel between Ft. Stewart, GA, and Hunter Army Airfield, GA, as required to support project needs.



Work Environment and Physical Demands:

Work is typically performed in a professional office setting on a military installation. Occasionally, work will occur in operational facility environments, mechanical spaces, or construction sites where exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures may occur. The position requires travel between Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield, and the individual must be able to work independently within government facilities. Standard work hours are 0730 to 1600, Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays.

Appearance:

Contractor personnel are expected to present a professional appearance appropriate for a government facility. Business casual attire is standard; however, attire must be neat, clean, and suitable for interaction with government personnel and meeting participation. During field visits or inspections, clothing must be safe and appropriate for construction or mechanical environments. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, safety vests, or eye protection, must be worn when required. All contractor personnel must carry and display appropriate identification (e.g., CAC) while on government premises.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 4 years of hands-on design experience with HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on complex commercial or institutional projects with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in CAD-based design platforms (AutoCAD, Revit, or MicroStation).
  • Working knowledge of NFPA, International Fire Code, and Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and eligible to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC).

  • Prior experience on DoD installations or with Army Corps of Engineers design standards, preferred.
  • Familiarity with Federal contracting environments and Army DPW project processes, preferred.
  • Active or previously held security clearance, preferred.
