Summary of Position Responsibilities:

The purchasing clerk position is an important point of contact with vendors that do business with Frank's Supply Company, Inc. It is primarily through this position that we demonstrate our commitment to achieve customer service excellence. This position is responsible for performing purchasing tasks in accordance with company business practices and in the professional manner required to build market share and maintain repeat business with our valued vendors.

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities:



  • Process purchase orders in the Purchase Order System on the computer.
  • Set up new product numbers for vendors.
  • Must be able to resolve invoice issues and work with the accounting department.
  • Coordinate warranties and returns with shipping & receiving and all manufacturers.
  • Receive all stock and non-stock merchandise in purchasing system on computer, verify freight charges, pricing, quantity ordered vs. quantity received, backorders, store transfers, etc. Notify accounting department of any address, phone number, and name changes of manufacturers.
  • Must be able to identify, evaluate, and assimilate information before making quality decisions.
  • Maintain files for open and closed purchase orders and coordinate moving old files into storage.
  • Timely handling of manufacturer complaints.
  • Know required features and demonstrate proficient use of all job support tools including computer system, telephone, fax, E-mail, voice mail, copier, calculator, and other job reference materials and documents.
  • Participate in personal development including activities as directed by management which can include:


Attending department and company meetings

Attending computer software seminars

Attending vendor and other training courses as approved by management; use self-instructional materials available

Read trade, vendor and other product or services materials

Keep informed about company plans, marketing and sales goals, promotions and related materials, policies and procedures

Other training courses approved by management

  • Perform special projects, participate on project teams, and other tasks as assigned by management
