POSITION SUMMARY


The Team Lead, Repair & Refurbishment is competent in all duties and responsibilities for repair and refurbishing of instruments, able to evaluate damaged merchandise to determine cost effectiveness of needed fixes according to established quality and time guidelines. This position will assist the Operations Manager by providing direction and training to associates within their work teams, giving basic administrative/personnel guidance, developing improvements in the shop, and ensuring production rates, quality, and store service goals are reached.




ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Successfully fulfills duties and responsibilities with minimal supervision
  • Monitors work team for safety policy compliance, housekeeping, and demonstration of work behaviors
  • Familiar with applicable Associate Handbook policies and assists shop manager with basic administrative/personnel guidance as well as performance evaluation of team members
  • Keeps supervisor/manager informed of production rates, training needs, performance issues, improvement suggestions, and personnel issues
  • Works with managers and staff to develop improvements to the refurbishment process
  • Able to receive inbound calls from customers inquiring about merchandise, adjustments, and modifications of instruments, and training staff on repairs *If candidate is still Advanced Repair Tech, assists Senior Repair Techs with these duties*
  • Conducts performance tests on instruments to evaluate their sound quality and to locate defects
  • Disassemble/reassemble instruments and parts for repair and adjustment
  • Inspects, repairs, and adjusts returned instruments prior to re-stock
  • Repairs and reconditions used and trade-in instruments as required
  • Grades instruments appropriately for used inventory
  • Polishes instruments using rags and polishing compounds, buffing wheels, or burnishing tools
  • Maintains accurate records for production reporting and manages department inventory
  • Meets production goals as determined by the department manager
  • Other duties as assigned




EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE



  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
  • 3 years (minimum) prior Repair Technician experience (required)
  • 3 years (minimum) Music & Arts experience (required)
  • Certificate from an accredited Musical Instrument Repair School (preferred)
  • Skilled understanding and function of one or all brass, woodwind, percussion, and orchestral instruments (preferred)
  • Qualified as an Advanced Repair Technician
  • Comfortable and confident with skillsets and effectively collaborates with other Repair Technicians to ensure the shop reaches production goals as a team
  • Proven aptitude to perform Team Lead duties and meet individual production goal while simultaneously maintaining quality control standards
  • Proven reliability and strong attendance record
  • Leads by example; can work as a positive, contributing member of a team
  • Demonstrated strong focus on safety, quality, and inventory management
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to train and direct others to complete assigned tasks
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to effectively give and receive instruction
