Multiple postdoctoral research fellow positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Shan Meltzer at the Department of Pharmacology at Vanderbilt University (with affiliation to Vanderbilt Brain Institute). Vanderbilt University is a prestigious private research institution renowned for its cutting-edge biomedical research and medical education.

The main focus of research in Dr. Meltzer's Laboratory is to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms of mammalian somatosensory development and function, using a combination of transcriptomics, imaging, mouse genetics, physiology, and behavior. This research will provide important insights for treating nerve injury, pain, and somatosensory dysfunctions in diseases. The candidates are expected to present their work at laboratory meetings and publish their findings.

Dr. Meltzer completed her postdoctoral work at the Department of Neurobiology at Harvard Medical School in the lab of David Ginty. She received her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of California San Francisco, under the mentorship of Yuh Nung Jan, studying Drosophila sensory neuron development and function. She completed her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences and Philosophy from Peking University. She received many prestigious awards, including a HHMI Hanna H. Gray Fellowship, NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, UCSF Chancellor's Award for Advancement of Women, and Grass Foundation Trustee Recognition Award, as recognitions of her outstanding research and science outreach.

Requirements:

An MD, PhD, or MD/PhD in a related field (neuroscience, bioinformatics, imaging, genetics, cell biology, etc). Strong publication record showcasing your research expertise. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Anticipated position duration: 4-7 years.

Expectations:

* Design, perform and analyze experiments for manuscript preparation

* Contribute to training and/or supervision of technicians, graduate and undergraduate students in the lab

* Participate in research collaborations

How to apply:

Candidates with a strong background in bioinformatics, imaging, neuroscience, molecular biology, and/or related disciplines are strongly encouraged to apply. Interested candidates should send their CV, contact information for three references, and a cover letter describing their past research and future research interests in the lab (shan.meltzer@vanderbilt.edu).
